He's referring to Jimmy Cheek and his lack of commitment to athletic success. The man could care less about our football program. He needs to be replaced asap.

1. Thornton Center is run by academics and not athletics, and that was not the purpose for the building. Professors make it tougher on athletes, not easier. 2. Automatic NCAA qualifiers are not automatic qualifiers to get into UT. We are the only school in the SEC -- including Vanderbilt -- where this is the case. 3. C-minus grades do not count toward majors like they do in other schools, and they go against your grade and not "passing." Guys like Lanier would have been eligible at somewhere like Florida. 4. There is not a criminal justice major, and that's something that a lot of athletes major in.
These are not small things. They scare off coaches. Maybe Strong was concerned he wouldn't be able to get a kid like Bridgewater into UT, and rightfully so. Jimmy Cheek has GOT to be fired or this may never get fixed.
It's costing us greatly.

The Thornton Center's stated purpose is for "academic counseling services, career development program, student development program, comprehensive tutoring program, writing lab, math lab, computer lab, and accommodations for students with special needs." In other words, fulfilling the mission of the university while maintaining high-performing athletics programs. I applaud the university for having higher academic standards. Otherwise, the football program becomes a little more than a revolving door for 20-year-olds to reach the NFL and the university's diplomas barely worth the paper they're printed on.
Need a fine example of a program that doesn't compromise its standards just to recruit blue chip teenagers? The #1 team in the nation, Notre Dame.
