  • "I had more interaction with current Vols today than I had n the previous 2 years, met some great guys and excited football players, loved it"

Sounds like Jones is already allowing former players to interact with current ones. Awesome.

If you go look at his (Ainge's) twitter timeline for the last 36 hours, he's gone from hating on Jones to going "full Butch". Looks like Jones implemented the open door policy immediately, and it's already paying off...

That is a pretty telling statement, imo. Bodes well for the future connecting with the rich past. Doesn't reflect very good at all on Dooley. Well, at least he didn't have Herschel Walker give them any "hunker down, dawgs!" speeches.....that I know of, anyway....

I listen to EA in the AM and I don't think he ever hated Jones, he hates the administration (Which everybody does). He hated how the search was handled which is understandable... Ainge and Swain have both been very impressed thus far, as have I. Really have to bring in Tee though.

  • Been following this on twitter today, and its a great sign of things to come, IMO. It's awesome to have so many former Vols excited about what's going on. I even saw Bernard King jump into the twitter conversation at one point... vols

  • Pardon my ignorance, and maybe this was covered before I got here, but did Doolander limit the interaction between current and former players? If true, then that was a bum move...truly Saban-esque.

  • Why? because it was handled professionally with class. Nothing was put out there to feast on. He was trying to find the best coach.

Listen, I understand some people don't want to hear this, but Dave Hart did a really, really bad job during the search. The public relations, even putting aside the search itself, was a catastrophe. Go read anyone who follows the business and the opinion is pretty much uniform: Dave Hart stumbled and bumbled and embarrassed the university, but he may have ended up with a pretty darn good coach. That's not bias, that's how people who have no skin in the game feel. I don't think anyone can look at this search impartially and think Dave Hart did some great job.

He could have been classy and contacted other administrators without putting our name through the ringer like it has been the last four days.

I think the former players coming back is great! They can show the new players the brand of football and can also talk about experiences and how to deal with the stuff that goes on. Ainge would have a great story to tell about his struggles with pain killers and all. There is nothing but positives that can come of the former players coming back on board. Well done Butch Jones!

I guess Ryan and Wes can answer this best, but there were a lot of restrictions to access, but I'm not sure of the specifics

I find it weird Dooley created the VFL program but once your time on campus was up you were done. It would really only help the program. I always read about the UNC basketball program, the players that were in the pros would come back every summer and play with and educate the players on the team. Jordan came back at an older age and schooled Vince Carter. Showed him how to be better and to not have a huge head because there is always somebody better than you.

  • Remember Dooley said he wanted a phone call before the lettermen showed up at practice, but remember how closed he kept practices so I am sure the ex-players never got the kind of access they were used to.

  • Has anyone seen anything from Berry on his thoughts on CBJ hire? We all know hs feeling on DD, could be important with his little brothers in the future.

I completely agree. What else should be expected, Gruden?

The guy had a prioritized list, went to them in order and hired the highest priority guy that would take his offer.

Preliminarily the hire seems to be pretty good.

  • You guys are confusing the hire with how the search was managed. Two different things. A blind hog will find an acorn sometimes.

Hogs will eat anything that don't eat them.

I don't know how it works at other programs so I can't comment on the whole access for former players thing, but Dooley looked like a grade A jerk at the presser you're referring to. If I was a former player that would have been the day I was done with Dooley. Good riddance.
