FULMER TO UCONN?

  • ESPN is reporting Phil is interested in the UCONN job. Anyone hearing if the interest is mutual. Phil could win there I mean it is the big east. He would work hard again and have players 3 times better than anyone else.

  • Would be a great job for him. I'd love to be able to pull for Fulmer again.

  • I would love to see Phil end up with this job. Its the big east we wouldn't be recruiting many of the same players. He is a UT great anyway you slice it. He should have the fire back after the last few years. UCONN and phil could rule the Big East. It would make for a great game when we play them. Phil would be successful there IMO. I think it is time for phil to get back into coaching if thats what he wants to do. UCONN is far enough away and irrelevant enough compared to SEC that I think it's perfect fit for VOL fans to root for him.

  • I took this to read that CPF was interested in UConn not the other way. I don't doubt that he can still coach, but I don't think it will happen. So many younger assistants and coordinators are available for UConn to choose from. I would not hire a coach that was his age and had not coached in 2 years and I am his age. The longer he stays out of the loop the harder it will be. JMO

  • TCU is coming to the Big East...

  • Phillip wants to coach again, but he doesn't want to build somewhere from scratch.

I haven't been able to get ahold of him about this, but I think he'd be interested. He badly wants to get back to the BCS, and you can do that at UConn.

  • I hope Phil gets a job coaching again. It was tough to see him leave UT but it had to happen. I wish him nothing but the best.

  • I wish Phil the best.

One thing I don't understand are the haters that claim Phil is just doing this to "keep his name out there".

If that were the case, wouldn't he come out and say he is interested in Michigan instead of UConn? What would floating his name for no actual coaching reason at a school like UConn over Michigan do for him?

    Nothing.

Dooley, tryin to make a dollar, Dooley gonna make you hollar.

  • Phil is interested in this opportunity. Not sure how much. But from what I here there is mutual interest. This could get interesting.

Points for using the word interest in almost all of its forms....

  • I read a UConn blog today and was amazed at how many people thought Fulmer would be a great pick for the job. The phrase "no brainer" was posted several times. Many of the anti-Fulmerites who posted were Tennessee fans who felt the locals needed to know the rest of the story. Some of them, frankly, were pretty low rent.

I hope he gets the job. There's no indication yet from UConn that the interest is mutual.

From their perspective it is a no brainer. What other coach with a ring would even take their call? UConn is not close to being the best job available to coaches, so they are looking at the dregs of the big boys' pool of candidates anyhow.

    I'll hang up and listen.

I'm no Fulmer apologist, as I thought the man had put it on auto-pilot until it was too late. however, the fact that those low-lifes put forth the energy to run him down and antagonize his chances at getting back to where he loves to be, is despicable.

I, like many others, cherish the man as he's a Vol through and through, and if what he wants is to get back into coaching, then by all means that's what I hope comes to fruition.

my two cents: he could build an every 3-4 year Big East championship type of program there. he has always had recruiting success in the Northeast(N. Virginia, Penn., NJ, etc...).
