FUNNIEST VOL STORY...

  • 1976 UT vs Clemson in Knoxville. My sister was a sophmore at Clemson and I was a senior in high school. We drove to Knoxville to stay with my grandmother and go to the game. Being natives of Knoxville I asked her who she would pull for. She said she was a Tiger and that was where her loyalty lied. We got to the game early too find our cousin who played in THE PRIDE OF THE SOUTHLAND BAND, and after a short visit we found our way to the seats.

When the teams took the field just before kick-off, my sister started whooping and hollering and screaming...i said, " I thought you were pulling for the Tigers" to which she replied " I am, doesn't the orange "T" on their helmets stand for Tigers?"

I never went to another game with her!!!!

And UT won the game 21-19

  • My wife and I had our 1st date to homecoming in 2001 vs Louisana Monroe. When we left Elizabethton it was hot and near 90. We parked and went to the stadium. Clausen had a career TD day I believe, but it came a absolute monsoon rainstorm and we got drownded. My wife had on white pants and a orange t-shirt. It rained so hard her shirt bled thru her pants. We went to West town mall and bought new clothes and shoes to wear home. Never forget that 1st date, lol

I spent a lot of time in West Town Mall....it was while my wife and kids were spending a lot of money there.

  • 1998. I was pregnant with our first child. At that time, we lived in Rochester, NY, so it was very rare to get to go to a Tennessee football game. We got tickets to the Syracuse game. I must say it was so odd going to a football game up north. The only people tailgating were the Tennessee fans who traveled for the game. So different from a Tennessee game. Anyway, I get into the games way too much. I was 7 months pregnant and, oddly enough, the CARRIER dome had no air-conditioning. Go figure. Anyway, that was such an exciting game, that I got so hot that I almost passed out. But the game was too exciting that I wouldn't leave the game so my husband kept making runs to the first aid station to get me ice packs so I wouldn't faint. A really cool thing about that game though was that, after the game, we went to dinner. When we entered the restaurant there was a group of people from Knoxville. We got to talking to them and ended up joining them for dinner. Being so far from home, it was so cool to be able to hang out with some people from. "back home." especially Vol fans! On a side note: Ironically, I went into labor a few weeks labor during the Arkansas game. A few weeks later (1 week before the National Championship game) we had the privilege of meeting Fulmer. My husband told him that I got so worked up with the Arkansas game that I went in to labor and Fulmer said he almost went into labor in that game too:)
