  • I totally get the frustration of watching our team fold or loose control late into games. I also understand the time and money it takes just to go to a game. But if we want a team that fights to the end we have to have a fan base that does the same. If 50000 people walk out when Florida takes the lead why would you expect our boys to continue to fight. I know 50000 people didn't leave then but it wasn't much after that. My point simply is that if we can't stay the whole time, cheer our team on, and be loud as hell the whole time then how can we sit here and talk about them quitting, when we quit on them. Just one mans opinion. Go Vols.

I was at the game. People didn't start to leave in large numbers until it went to a 17 point lead.

  • They started pouring out the gates when we still had 10 minutes left to play. Did they not watch the NC State game and see how fast our offense can score. I too, was extremely disappointed. Not to mention how quiet it got even in the first half after Florida scored. They did come back to life a bit, but not nearly like they were. I do think they were a tad bit better Saturday than they had been in the past. Maybe if our fans can make it through 4 quarters, our team will too.

  • I'll break it down for you. After Florida scored to take the lead and we go the and out early in fourth the stadium started getting empty. Withabout teen minutes or so left and us down two scores out was half full. See how long that took to write out but I guess some folks need it to follow.

  • The fanbase has no reason to believe that Tennessee can overcome a deficit like that and after losing to Florida for the 8th straight year. The team has to give the fans something to believe in and they will stay to the bitter end.

  • I was there.

    Did people leave? Yes.

Was the stadium 50% empty? God no. If that was true it wouldn't of taken me 45 minutes to get out of the parking garage.

  • It was a ghost town with 9 minutes left. I know some don't want to hear it but sometimes we have to be better fans too.

Its college ball anything crazy can happen.how many points did we put up on NC State to end the first. And I have been to many games where UT has been winning big and fans still leave and don't watch our younger players. That ain't good either.

i hear you. I stayed to the end on Saturday, i stayed til the end against Arkansas in '98 and i stayed til the end of the Music City Miracle game. I wish fans would stay but it is not going to happen when you have to sit in traffic for 1.5 to 2 hours to get off campus if you stay until the end.

Yeah that's a whole different discussion there.that's ridiculous. It took us forever too and we ate after trying to cut the traffic time down.

I couldn't believe how long it took especially with the early mass exodus of fans.

  • Can't speak for everybody, but people in our section stayed around until we felt like the team had quit down on the field. Hard to stay around and watch a total meltdown, but when it became evident that most of our players weren't trying anymore, it was time to go. About 6 mins left IIRC.

  • I hate when people leave games early that are still winnable. But we are FANS. We are paying to see quality football and effort. This loss has nothing to do with the fans if that is what you're suggesting.

I was at the game to and many people did leave when we where only down 7 and we went 3 & out. I also left early, although it was when we where down 17 with 5 or 6 min. Left and really that's not an excuse, and wish now I would've stayed. We as a fan base do quit on our team sometimes. With that being said I do understand leaving though because it's hard to sit there and watch the same thing go down over and over in the 2nd half of ballgames. I can see both sides of it and although I told my wife I wasn't going back the rest of the year........I'll see you guys Saturday. hahaha!!!

I would never suggest a loss was due to fans in any way. We have no real control of what happens or who plays great or not. But if you were a player Saturday and looked up to see it fans leaving early would it affect you. I think it does. We tell recruits come pat in front of 100,000 plus every Saturday but what we should say is... You could play in front of that if we are good, winning, our play a great team, but as soon as things look bad they leave or if we play a nobody about half that come. All I am saying is we need to be better too even when its bad.

I wholeheartedly agree 100% and think we all, including myself, could do a better job. I also think consessions, even though they are offering a better price on some stuff, and ticket prices being lowered could bring a lot more fans out. IMO

  • Amen and amen. Here it was 10:54 left on the clock, Florida had just scored to go up 34-20. We flipping scored 16 points in 36 seconds two weeks ago, and these "fans" left because they didn't have faith that we could score 14 in 11 minutes. Did we score those points? No we didnt. But it has to be discouraging as a 19-20yr old kid look up and see thousands of fans piling out so early.

I left with about 8-9 minutes left. Florida was moving the ball at will. We were down 14 and Dooley sent out the punt team. On my way out of the gates I heard UF kick a field goal. It was about 8 central and I had a four hour drive home, 15-20 minute walk to my car and traffic to deal with...and quite frankly I was kind of pissed about the 2nd half. Please don't question my fanhood as I did pay $200+ on tickets, $100+ on gas, $50 on food and a day away from my 2 and 5 year olds. I was there, I was loud and I was standing for the Vol Walk, Salute the Hill and the first three and a half quarters of the game.
