Finebaum on CFB Live

  • Finebaum was just asked, "who is the most irrational fan base in the SEC".
His reply, "my alma mater, Tennessee".
He's getting a call on the radio show tomorrow, haha.

  • Another question he might have been asked...

Paul, which SEC fanbase listens to and trusts you the least and doesn't offer you the ratings numbers that others do?- My alma mater.

If the fan base includes people like Small Mind, Brady, and the like, then I agree. I personally do not include the nut-job sidewalk alumni and other undesirables in my perception of the fanbase because they're here one day, gone the next.

He said that to play to his fan base. There is no fan base more delusional that Bama. Period.

By the way, when we were kids Finebaum was one of my playmates. He was the cousin of my next door neighbor and was over there all the time. He was an CENSORED even then.

Couldn't agree more. I lived on the same floor with him in Morrill. Arrogant, condescending and hated UT even then.

Finebaum won't say Bama, he's made too much money off of those people. They love to get on national radio down there and reinforce stereotypes. Just be glad that you aren't a Bama or Auburn fan, I feel sorry for some of those people.

  • Finebaum is a joke. RED-NECK central. Says whatever he has to get ratings. Would rather listing to "old school" gospel music all day then tune in to his show.

I have no idea if he's already taped for the day, but if you do call in the future and have not already, the FACTS to mention are (as above) the Toomer's Corner Trees; the teabagging incident after the NC; and of course, don't forget the guy that shot at his own son after we beat Bama in about 5 OTs w/Casey Clausen in an away game.

Challenge Mr. Finebaum to find comparable examples among our fanbase, and then hang up without engaging further. My guess is he can't find those comparables. Proof of the third example, above: http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?id=1626939

And then there's this additional shooting: http://www.al.com/news/press-register/metro.ssf?/base/news/122631213873770.xml&coll=3

Its not a stupid question until you ask it.

  • I limit my sports media to sources that provide real information - such as this site. I have spent the past few months in my hometown near the Alabama border, and the only afternoon sports radio show available is Finebaum. after not hearing him for many years, I listen to him for 5-10 minutes about every week or two - because there is no information that I don't already have.

A few things are clear. The obvious ones are that he has been using verbal assaults to get attention for a long time, probably since childhood, and "stirring the pot" increases ratings which gives him more money.

But something else is obvious. He has nothing but contempt for his fan base, especially the Alabama fans. He is like a sports Jerry Springer for Alabama fans. If you have a modicum of knowledge of the media interview process, you can readily see that he routinely leads Alabama fans to make fools of themselves, ad nauseum.

For those of you of a certain age, you know the best ever was Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show. he could make a bimbo starlet seem like an "artist". He could make some dimwit actor seem like he had real political insights. He could interview a granny from Iowa about her macaroni sculpture in a way that made her the comedian and Johnny the butt of the jokes.

He was THAT GOOD with the interview process.

Finebaum, makes his callers - usually the Bama callers - sound like ignorant rednecks. Once they start, he encourages even more pronounced behavior and leads them on forever - rather than skillfully ending the call. With say a UT fan, he will bring it to an abrupt end, fein having his sensibilities offended and wait for the Bama callers.

I promise that he despises his Bama fans.

  • I promise that he despises his Bama fans.

So he's like some of the racehorse owners in KY who look down upon the unclean masses who come through the gates at Churchill Downs or Keeneland to gamble, the very people who make absurdly large purses in horse races possible in the first place?

  • . . . and one more thing. Incredibly, sadly, there's this:

    http://www.waff.com/story/15508022/man-goes-on-trial-for-a-man-charged-with-raping-mother

Dunno if he's a Bama fan, but I've never heard of anything this bad from one our "irrational" UT fans.

It's also horrendous journalism, because it identifes a rape victim, which is forbidden unless she wants to be identified.
