  • This is my first post, I've been on here for a while reading, but haven't posted. I'm trying to figure out the reasons out there to keep Dooley. He was dealt a tough hand, and by all accounts is a nice guy but I don't see anything in his history that would lead me to believe he can turn our program around. I understand the people arguing we need to keep Dooley because Cowher, Gruden, etc. are just pipe dreams. I don't necessarily agree that Gruden is a pipe dream, and think he's possible, but even if you take him out of it there are numerous coaches out there which would be a great hire and better then what we have in my opinion. Charlie Strong would be #1 on my list after you check with the "dream" candidates and I think he would jump at the chance to get back into the SEC. It seems like we keep selling ourselves short, this is still a very desirable job. We are a traditional top 10-15 program, and I can't understand why meiocrity is being accepted. I don't claim to have any inside information, just wanted to have a discussion and look forward to hearing from everyone.

  • Good 1st post. Very rational, and you're skeptical of Dooley like a lot of people are... I like Charlie Strong to, but he's not near the top for me. But he is the hot name, and he has beaten some good teams this year, and you're right, he doesn't want to be stuck in that dumpster fire of the Big East much longer.

  • Let me just ask this what had nick saban done before Mich St. Job or getting the LSU job. Im not saying Dooley is Saban but u never know how great he could be if we dont give him a real chance. And three years isnt enough.

Dooley has got the goods. The naysayers say he can't coach. I say he is building this program the way Tennessee has to rebuild a program -- year by year, slowly but surely. The wins will come. Patience is the key.

Saban is the perfect example and I've posted his MSU record many times myself. Hell, the man is a Saban clone!
