I don't think Russell's departure would help Tennessee with Meredith, actually. The idea of having Russell as his position coach was one of the things Meredith really liked about the Vols and one of the things working in UT's favor, considering the uncertainty surrounding North Carolina tight ends coach Allen Mogridge.

Russell leaving wouldn't necessarily mean Meredith isn't going to pick Tennessee, but it will be interesting to see what Meredith thinks about some of the ongoing changes to UT's staff, especially if Russell indeed is a part of that.

I believe the immediate and end result of Eric Russell coaching anywhere besides here will help our chances to outperform his units performances...by a landslide. Did you witness 1 (at the most 2) player only rushing punter for Buffalo and that individual danced through to block the punt? Or what about the Florida game and Rainey chilling us to the bone with his game changing block? 'nuff said...imho.

So, let us use Cameron Clear regularly to catch passes in the redzone and block when necessary or you can forget about any TE recruits coming to UT regardless of this Meredith kid. If N.C. has not been ruled out by now without Russell's probable departure...the kid will probably be wearing that sky blue color anyway. Good-bye Coach ER, and thank you for giving us a reason to replace you. TE/ST just improved at the mere thought of his absence.rockon

  • This is great news.

I heard on the radio earlier today that he has already called Davis to let him know he was coming to Tennessee and that he was going to recruit him here.

It appears that was not the case as Davis said this evening he had not talked to Graham who was recruiting him at USCe.

But expect Graham to go after Davis hard and take another shot for UT this time at Mathers and Pender. UT also has a few other RBs in the mix.

  • Welcome back to U.T., Jay. Glad to have you as RB coach. If Chaney is moving to QB coach, does that mean the Vols will be looking for a new Offensive Coordinator? Just wondering. Thanks.

No. Chaney will still be the OC. Many OC's coach a position and same with DC's. IF both do then that means you can have 2 positions covered by assts.

  • So glad to see some TRUE good news about the Vols. I posted last week, when there was some talk about Tee Martin, that if there was one thing this staff needed was a former Vol hired to get some positive PR for Dooley during this crucial recruiting time.

Dooley didn't waste time and made a good hire. If Dooley was on the board I'd give him a +1 for this move.
