Franklin motivates his players, Dooley just doesn't.

  • It was evident watching them on the sidelines tonight. Franklin very active and engaged. Dooley with deer in the headlights look.

Think that's been his main failure. Just couldn't get the team to play their best. Don't know what he tells them at half time, but would probably be better if he just kept his mouth shut.

  • True, but Franklin can keep his ass on West End. I'm an alumnus, but I will give up my season tickets and quit being a fan if Hart brings that a-hole to Knoxville.

You always hear that Franklin makes his players EXPECT to win. No matter what.

It seems like Dooley is just expected to lose (now 0-13 when trailing at the half, 4-20 in the league, etc. etc.)

  • Not saying that we need Franklin, just pointing out the difference in how they act around the players.

Dooley has lost all control of this team. Though Dooley is still the coach, he has lost all credibility with his players for quite some time now. Tonight was just the most evident episode of it. There is no emotion from anyone. They don't care if they turn it over or if they get burnt (Lathers is my ONLY exception to this). A turnover happens and fingers are now starting to be pointed (Patterson after the Bray interception for ex.) at each other. Mark my word y'all, and I'm being dead serious, if Dooley is still considered our coach by the time we play Kentucky; it will be worse than what tonight and last year's Kentucky was both. If not, depending on the situation on who all takes what temporary roles, a streak of some sort of motivation will strike our players to play hard for just one game. Either way though, the next exciting event in the life of TN football will be the naming of the new coach. After tonight, even beating Kentucky will seem sour unless the Dooley announcement is made this week...giving fans an ounce of future hope.

As for Franklin...you sir make a very valid point. I can't stand him! I lost all respect for him when he mentioned how he gets his assistants (checking out their wives). That's something you may joke around about with the guys (personal friends...not the players) but good lord act professional. I don't care how much success he's had with Vandy. Be an honorable man first!

  • Franklin still hasn't beaten a good team. This year, he beat UMass, Presbyterian, and five of the six worst teams in the SEC. However, he deserves credit for getting Vandy into a position where it's not one of the bottom six teams itself.
