I think he's "A" problem, not "the" problem. He's had a rough stretch of games. But he's not the problem. He had some pretty bad turnovers last night. No disputing that. But he's also averaging 6 assists per game.
His defense has been appallingly bad. Especially given how much Martin praised his defense in the preseason.

When you can't guard your position, turn the ball over multiple times at crucial times, are basically no threat to score, and you're the point guard, it's bad news for your team. What looked to be a promising year for Golden has turned out to him being the biggest reason this team currently sucks. Inability to control dribble penetration from the point guard will destroy your half-court defense; that's one of the main problems I currently see. Golden might be able to make up for it when he's scoring 20+ but not when he's scoring 7 or 8. I'd also add that casually jogging up the floor with 35 seconds to go was about the dumbest thing I've ever seen in a basketball game.

It's hard to argue with that but special mention must be given to the complete lack of effort on the defensive end by the big men. Time and time again they let smaller players drive unchallenged to the basket and make zero effort to block out and go for a rebound. I would call us soft in the middle but you have to at least make an effort to be judged as soft.

If Golden wasn't getting broken down from the top of the key nearly every possession, the big men wouldn't be put in that situation. Essentially, with man to man defense it works like this: if you get broken down from the top of the key, it eliminates the ability to rotate effectively; therefore, when the guard comes flying down the lane, as you describe, the post is left with a choice to make. 1) He can go over and cut off the drive and leave his man uncovered; or 2) he can try to play halfway between his man and the driver and hope he can get a block at the last second. If you choose option #1, the guard dishes it off to the post's man he just left, and it's an uncontested dunk. If he chooses #2, he better be a good leaper and block that shot. We don't have anyone with that ability. Normal man to man defense is designed to force dribble penetration into your help; this allows for proper rotation, so if a post is forced to come over and help, the backside guard can rotate on the man the post just left. When you get broken down from the top of the key, it eliminates your ability to rotate and you're stuck in a no-win situation. That's why Golden's lack of on-ball defense is an absolute killer for us.

I completely agree. If you go back to some of the early games we were winning or competitive in, the bad dribble penetration defense was going on then. The difference now is we are not scoring like we were then and so we are losing. Teams have seen the film and have adjusted the way they play us.IMHO

LawVol13,
It says you have private messaging blocked, so I have to say this on the board instead of privately.
Please be more considerate of other posters and refrain from name-calling, insulting, etc. We have received several private messages about your tone/attitude.
We want this site to grow, but not at the expense of the culture we've built and are building here.
If you want to call people names, insult people or be condescending/confrontational there are plenty of places out there for you to do that. Please don't do it here.
Thanks for your consideration.

Didn't say it was in this thread.
I just saw you posted in this thread and figured you'd see my response. Like I said, I would have done this in a private message but apparantly you have them blocked. Tried in IE and Firefox.
Thanks for understanding.

Golden is the Main Problem With This Team, imo.
