  • Do you think it could be that Gruden is coming to coach RB's ?

FSU lost their recruiting coordinator. I would guess that Jay Graham will probably be given that title at FSU. It's disappointing, but you really can't blame a man for taking a promotion and more money, if that is the case.

Yes u can. It's called loyalty. I can leave my job for better pay right now. But guess what? I love my company and I will be loyal to them bc their loyal to me. Just like they kept him this yr. he isn't an end all be all but or sure we wish we still had him. It's bs that he left. Not loyal to anyone now. So don't think that anyone is gonna be loyal back to him. He's not a VFL obviously. Go vols!

  • This is pretty hard to stomach. How can a new staff/HC preach about program and history and then lose it's only alumnus? I suppose everyone is replaceable to a degree, but this is kind of embarassing. I'll be interested to hear what the story is. I can't believe the Randy Sanders story though.

it doesnt really matter chances are this whole staff will be gone in a few years anyway. i just dont think cbj style of football is gonna work in the sec and we just dont have the firepower on our staff to bring in the elite talent. i know im gonna get dv to death but these are my concerns .

I think you are totally wrong.....doesn't matter WHO we got in here this time, it's going to be a tough road the next 1-2 yrs. For this staff to come in late into the recruiting season and be in on at least 5 or 6 Four & five star kids says alot. People on this site, as well as others, need to understand coaching is a "BUSINESS", just like any other profession out there. If you were offered a better opportunity and more money to leave your home town, most ppl would. Folks have to quit writing off CBJ and his staff before they even field a team or snap the ball. If this team can win and improve, you'll see less and less of the coaching changees taking place on the Hill...personally, I'm tired of the pessemistic fan and am excited for the future of UT football....

  • Unless JG got a huge pay raise and promotion, this raises a red flag. Im all for people improving their lot in life, and doing what's best for them, but i would expect that Jay would have stayed here even in the face of a moderate bump in pay and increase in responsibility. It's his alma mater. He left a pretty dang good job at SC to come here. So IF this really amounts to a lateral move, you have to ask why. We can all engage in conjecture, but I'll wait until we get some hard facts on the reasons for his departure.

I agree. I'm not sure why I lowered myself to arguing about this. Facts will come out. Then we can discuss this crap. I feel betrayed and like he is disloyal and shouldn't preach VFL everyday then leave at first sight of trouble. Wow.

  • Folks, folks...

    The sky is not falling.
This is not the end of UT football as we know it.
Graham is no more obligated to play out his career at UT than he is to his former high school.
This is a business and people move around in it for a variety of reasons...most of them are not about malice toward the institution they just left.

    Simmah down!

If we can work through some of the details and concerns, I think Trooper would be not only the choice, but an upgrade...

    Down the field...

  • I didn't log on yesterday bc was like... "maybe if I take a day off then Monday we would get good news of a new commit"... I waited till after lunch today and all I have to say is holy censored!! J. Graham?? Why even accept the damn position to begin with? Did he take the position initially, to help the UT in the final recruiting push.

We all know that new hires(in any/most industries)sign an agreement that outlines the terms of the first 30-90 days and there is a caveat that either party regardless of reason may be let go or have a chance to leave during that time. I wonder if Jay was in fact the odd man out and felt like he didn't fit with the more up tempo personalities and already closely tied staff hires?

If this was Jay giving it time to try and help the UT to end strong in recruiting while at the same time feeling out his true thoughts on the complete change of staff and their mission then he did is due diligence and gave it a chance and probably helped us a bit in our final push on the recruiting trail... But I am truly stumped as to why he even accepted the position in the first place...?? Only to boldly look players and their families in the face and say "I can't wait to coach you next year" and then accept a SIMILAR position with F.S. with Sunsari on staff.

This stings BAD! We had two of our most prolific letter men chose not to be on staff at the UT?? I want to know WHAT IS UP YO? I really do believe in CBJ and his entire staff and their philosophy. Now WE THE FANS deserve the full story as to why one of our VFL left a place where he is the most popular coach on staff. There is something up that we haven't heard or may never be privy to.

Ryan or anyone w knowledge... can we lose any recruits we just signed?

  • Loyalty doesn't feed the family. Never forget this is as much business as any other job. It's not like the man stole something, he has conducted himself amiably.

  • I know that Jay was a great RB for Tennessee and a ace recruiter at his previous stops, how is he as a coach?

Also I think the fact Randy Sanders is on the staff helped FSU a lot in this happening.

    Best of luck this year

  • So we went from Graham and Tee Martin to zero ex vols on the coaching staff. The best coaches in the country could not recruit better than a 20th. ranked class with very very little nfl experience. Good luck we are not moving forward at all. It doesn't take an einstein to figure out Jones is alot of talk and no walk. Say it ain't so but further proof will be next fall. It is sad. Would we not have been better off with Greg Roman??????????????????????????????
To answer my own question maybe this recruiting class would have been more negatively affected but in the coaching and long run we probably would have been much further ahead. Besides that if you recall the Partriots have released coaches before the end of their playoffs were complete. Not un common in the NFL during coaching season changes for someone who is recieving a promotion to head coach.

What about Larry Porter? He was always a great recruiter with Les Miles. I believe he is at Arizona State now. Surely we could pay close to whatever.

Porter was hired away from Arizona State and is at Texas.

With all due respect. I would think his first loyalty is to his family. Last year I left a company I was "loyal" to for many years because a competitor offered me a 50% increase in salary. At the end of the day, it was an easy decision. I'm happy, and my old company has moved on.
If his case was similar, honestly what would you expect him to do?
