Graham leaving Tennessee

Good post. Someone knows what their talking about around here. +1

Thanks. Sry for beating up with the DVs today. I guess I'm just used to the non-paying accolades that go on with other sites. No more DVs today....just healthy debates.

    Folks, folks...

    The sky is not falling.
This is not the end of UT football as we know it.
Graham is no more obligated to play out his career at UT than he is to his former high school.
This is a business and people move around in it for a variety of reasons...most of them are not about malice toward the institution they just left.

    Simmah down!

If we can work through some of the details and concerns, I think Trooper would be not only the choice, but an upgrade...

    Down the field...

Well said. You know, I've always liked to think that when other programs are taking your coaches that you are doing something RIGHT. In other words, the fact that other programs are looking at your coaches, promoting them, etc. means that their work is valued and is good. This is not a bad thing. I hate staff turnover, but in today's world it is inevitable. Coach Graham is a VFL and will always be no matter where he is. This was perfect timing IMO. Right before spring practice, after NSD. Plenty of time to fix any recruiting relationships. If the recruits were coming for Coach Graham, they would have already committed. The recruits care about WINNING. I believe this staff can win with or without CJG. Don't get me wrong, I was shocked by this news and we will miss him, but we have to move on. So, K/R/W, who's on our short list for running backs coach?

I know that Jay was a great RB for Tennessee and a ace recruiter at his previous stops, how is he as a coach?

Also I think the fact Randy Sanders is on the staff helped FSU a lot in this happening.

    Best of luck this year

That's a good question. As you can see from reading most of the posts on here, he was a very likable coach (until today). I think I speak for all Vol fans in saying that we were mostly happy with CBJ retaining CJG. Having said that, I don't know if I would say that CJG was "solely" responsible for our improved running game last year. There are so many factors, such as a very good OL, that helped us last year. Also, we didn't even have a running backs coach per se when CJG was hired. So, I think it remains to be seen if he is really that good, but my guess is yes. Obviously FSU thinks so, and that's all that matters now since he is going there. I believe you could do a lot worse, his résumé is pretty impressive when you look at it on paper. All I can say is best of luck CJG, time to move on now.

I didn't log on yesterday bc was like... "maybe if I take a day off then Monday we would get good news of a new commit"... I waited till after lunch today and all I have to say is holy censored!! J. Graham?? Why even accept the damn position to begin with? Did he take the position initially, to help the UT in the final recruiting push.

We all know that new hires(in any/most industries)sign an agreement that outlines the terms of the first 30-90 days and there is a caveat that either party regardless of reason may be let go or have a chance to leave during that time. I wonder if Jay was in fact the odd man out and felt like he didn't fit with the more up tempo personalities and already closely tied staff hires?

If this was Jay giving it time to try and help the UT to end strong in recruiting while at the same time feeling out his true thoughts on the complete change of staff and their mission then he did is due diligence and gave it a chance and probably helped us a bit in our final push on the recruiting trail... But I am truly stumped as to why he even accepted the position in the first place...?? Only to boldly look players and their families in the face and say "I can't wait to coach you next year" and then accept a SIMILAR position with F.S. with Sunsari on staff.

This stings BAD! We had two of our most prolific letter men chose not to be on staff at the UT?? I want to know WHAT IS UP YO? I really do believe in CBJ and his entire staff and their philosophy. Now WE THE FANS deserve the full story as to why one of our VFL left a place where he is the most popular coach on staff. There is something up that we haven't heard or may never be privy to.

Ryan or anyone w knowledge... can we lose any recruits we just signed?

Once a guy signs is NLI he can't leave for another D-1 school unless he wants to sit out a year. But, what we really have to worry about his Jalen Hurd for this year.

Jabo Lee was the RB that signed. Though it is possible for him to change schools, it is highly unlikely. He must first secure a release from UT and then reopen his recruitment. Not many schools will grant a release just because a position coach left. I'm sure W/K/R could answer this better, but I'm willing to go out on a limb and say we won't lose anyone as a result of Graham leaving. This also should not have a major impact on next years class considering that signing day is 11 months away and all the recruits will have the opportunity to watch a hopefully improved team on the field this year.

  • I'll take Travis Henry for $315,000?.. or Jamal Lewis anyone?.. You think Condredge Halloway would fail at coaching RBs? We need one of our best to Coach this position in a bad way to make that position coaching nearly as important to recruits for the reason they were that way. The fact that CJG had made history here was a big deal to these recruits. Only another one of our greats would be able to maintain that type of relationship.

  • Well, well, well. Another kick in the balls for UT and ME. And if it is over money and responsibilities then CBJ should be kicked in the balls. EVERY time I begin to have better feelings about my FB program, then something happens to bust my balls and put another black mark on the Tennessee program. Friends, Romans and Country men, I am about over the fiasco called Tennessee Football. Only hope I live long enough to see the Vols back in the big time for real. Until then:censored !!! Lots of games on Saturday to watch and money to stay in my pocket.
