Grateful Summitt steps aside

One of history's most successful coaches symbolically — and, as always, graciously and gracefully — put her whistle around the neck of her longest-tenured assistant.

Thanks so much Wes, well written and including Hart's comments solidified the information. I will say this about Holly Warlick...don't underestimate her. She came to UT on a track scholarship and became a three time All American in basketball setting multiple records along the way. Tenacious, knowledgeable, mature and loyal...those are great attributes for a coach. I wish she and coach Summit the best.

  • Wes, great story - especially on a quick turnaround. If folks weren't there or didn't watch this online they can still feel like they were there by reading this.

  • I have so much respect for the person and coach Pat is. I wish her nothing but the best as she continues to give the stare-down to all who make mistakes in her presence.

  • How lucky we are as fans,to be blessed with such an iconic figure,to represent this great university! As far as I'm concerned, the university should plan now to erect a statue @ T B arena of Summit,to match the one of the General @ the stadium!

    agreed
Named a stadium after & erected a statue of Neyland, named a street after Manning. Named a court after Summit, but adding a statue seems fitting.

A fitting tribute to this iconic coach, lady, teacher, friend, mother, mentor, and humble person. She is what every coach should be!

  • Question for Wes/Ryan...

Any reason why Joan Cronan wasn't seated at the table with Pat? I found that odd after watching the presser online. I realize Hart recognized her, but I think she should have been up there.

I, too, am concerned about the omission of Joan from the press table. As a former Lady Vol who was coached by Joan before Pat began her tenure, I am afraid Joan's contributions to the Lady Vols have been somewhat overshadowed, and I mean no negative reflection on Pat! Like Pat, Joan exemplifies class, integrity, excellence and loyalty. She's almost as revered in athletic circles as Pat.

Thanks for the perspective, and thanks for sharing it with the board. Wes mentioned right off the bat that he was puzzled about Cronin not being up there, but I think he mentioned it on Twitter and not on the board.
