Gruden Update

According to my roommate, Gruden contacted Jason Michael, the current San Diego Chargers tight ends coach, about interest in coming with Gruden to Tennessee, if Gruden were to take the job. Michael formally coached for the Vols in 2003/04. My roommate's family is close to Michael's family. I wouldn't be making this up just to post something. And considering Wes/Ryan already confirmed that Gruden has in fact contacted other coaches about coming with him to Tennessee, it wouldn't be too hard to imagine this either. Go Vols, take the fight to Kentucky tomorrow.

From some of the "names" Gruden has supposedly contacted, if its all true, it seems he is trying to bring in people who actually care about the program and have connections with UT in some way. Anyone else notice that?

Didn't Wes, Ryan or Kevin confirm in one of their stories that Gruden actually did contact Rich Bisaccia, the Chargers Special Teams coach who he worked with in Tampa Bay to gauge his interest in the college game?

I have a couple of thoughts on that. I believe Gruden wants Tennessee people in Tennessee. Also, I think it would be a good move with the fan base to bring back the "Tennessee Family." Who is going to recruit better for Tennessee when recruits can get an honest perspective of someone who knows the university.

All of this is akin to beating Florida again. I'll believe it when we get it done but I just get way too excited thinking about it.

Yes he did. Gruden could be potentially trying to find some guys who can recruit the west coast. This would make sense, especially if alleged new style of offense would be somewhat spread-based.

Although I like the idea of getting Gruden, I wouldn't be upset (as much as most of my fellow UT students) if Tennessee ended up taking Strong, Fisher, or Roman. I'd probably rank my list as: Gruden, Strong, Fisher, Roman/Mora. Larry Fedora is also an intriguing prospect IMO.

Michael actually coached here in 2008. He was a member of Fulmer's final staff.

Overall it sounds good. Out of a hundred positive Gruden rumors, odds are one or two of them are true.
