Gruden meets with Juan Castillo about joining his staff...

  • CheckerboardVol said...

I believe the assistants this year were at $3.2 million so I would say the assistant pool is the least major of things being negotiated.

Thanx I guess I really dont know that much about itcitconsidering when I heard that I thouhht it was a lot

  • We are one of five schools in the country that paid their assistants more then $3 million. If Gruden comes we are looking at $9-10 million a year for the entire staff. Ok, so let's break it down. Gruden comes and season ticket sales go out the roof, but to be realistic let's say we merely recoup the 10,000 that we lost this year since the economy still sucks. Those 10,000 tickets with face value, donation, and extra spending are worth about $15 million. Nobody has ever accused me of being the sharpest knife in the drawer but that sounds like pretty simple math and that is just recouping what we lost this year. Ideally and most likely we will surpass that so..........

    cheers

yeah, he was fired Drizzle. Last month. After he was promoted from O-Line coach to defensive coordinator. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8511166/juan-castillo-fired-philadelphia-eagles

I am aware of this. I'm an Eagles fan. He was put in a position where he was the scapegoat if things went wrong. It was a horrible move by Reid. I'm just saying his firing from D-coordinator had no bearing on the fact he is the best O-line coach in the world. Brian Baldinger, Steve Mariucci, and most importantly Jon Gruden would all agree,

  • Wow, do all of you think he is talking to Castillo about a college job? Seriously?

I would also mention that maybe Gruden was talking to him about background information for his MNF telecast. Or about a possible position on his League staff.

  • I'm pretty sure Gruden is going to coach next year. I just hope it's here in Knoxville!

No offense but with him having talked to other assistants I believe that he is going to coach next year just depending on where if he comes to college he is coming to Tennessee and my guess is we will know soon if he is going to be the new coach but everything I have heard is talks are still ongoing with him but no offers yet that I know of so I think we will know if he is the coach by next week not this week but next !

The bigger question (in my mind) is why would you make your O-line coach DC? You'd think that O-Line to OC would be a more logical progression...

Like 15 years ago he coached LB's. Andy Reid is the most stubborn coach in the world, people up here were in uproar when he did it, and when things went bad, it was easy to fire the guy who had no d-coordinator experience. It's a shame for Juan, unbelievable coach and person. He will have a job next year.

and you dont think this could be gruden going to the eagles..i have a feeling hes putting a nfl staff together for his next coaching stop in philly..just my 2 cents..hope im wrong

Philly is not as glamarous a job as it was 2-3 years ago. Vick is gone, unless Gruden thinks Nick Foles can win championships I don't think he'd come to Philly. I doubt the Eagles front office would let him be GM to.

That makes it sound like Reid promoted him just to have a scapegoat in place if/when things went to censored...

  • I may be wrong here, but isn't Gruden on the record for saying that he would never coach in a cold or wet place? He loves the warm/mild weather.

  • Guys I think it would be natural for gruden to seek out nfl coaches for either an nfl job or a college job because these are the guys he knows or has worked with. I wouldn't read anything into that.

Do we know if Gruden has reached out to Tee? I'd imagine whoever we hire will have Jay Graham.
