    This is really annoying.

I come to this board for good discussion. Not 5 year old bull crap rumors that will never happen.

AMEN! How about we just shut up and support the group we have now? All this bull crap does is undermine the team we have now! frustrated

He's coming and he's bringing the following staff:

    Asst. Head Coach: Bill Cowher
    D Coord: Bill Belicheck
    OC: Jim Harbaugh

    We will be unstoppable.

    You forgot:
    QB coach: Peyton Manning.

Is there any truth to the on-going rumors that UT boosters are having contact with Gruden about becoming the next UT coach and are pushing Hart to make a change at the end of this season?

I wonder if Tennessee brass (and boosters) would really take this sort of risk at 5-6 million per year? Guy has never coached in college and never recruited. He would be at one of the more difficult schools to recruit too. Would he have the desire to do that work?

I doubt it. just think there is too much risk for failure at that price

I think when you put out Jon Grudens resume it speaks for itself. There is absolutely no question in my mind we would get a top 5 recruiting class every year. Biggggg difference between Derek Dooley and Jon Gruden walking into a kids living room.

  • Gruden was taking the Georgia Job last year after the Boise State loss.

If I am not mistaken Wes posted at one point that sources have said when the job WAS open (not now, because it isn't) Gruden was approached, and his people cited a figure that was astronomical. UT moved on in its coaching search.

I don't know if Wes will confirm my failing memory or just (privately) lol at the entire thread.

5.5 million was the starting point. Which means you would have 8-9 million dollars in the coaching staff.

No, you're correct. They said the number was so crazy large that UT didn't even have to think about it before turning their attention elsewhere. BUT that was before Dave Hart was here. I think Hart might sell his soul to get some wins. I'm just saying.....not supporting the rumor.

Which UT cannot afford, despite the prevailing belief that the UT balance sheet includes all revenues of Pilot Oil.

I think that would be in play this time around, or at least talked about...

Increase in season tickets right off the bat
    Incredible hype around the program

Now one thing worth mentioning. At the time when Saban got 4 million that was considered a huge number. Well I bet you if Saban wanted 8 million they'd give it to him. The amount of $ he has made Alabama is what Hart see's, not the 4 mill he is getting paid.

I I think I'd rather have Lovie Smith coaching the D than Bellicheat! Hope Gruden can swing that!

I see your Lovie Smith and raise you a Tony Dungy! biggrin

If he only had land somewhere near Knoxville......what's that? Sevier County? Wow I never knew.....

He has Dollywood Season tickets? Visits the Ripley's Aquarium in the Smokies at least 2 times a month? Takes trips to the mountains at least three times a week, including Cade's Cove? Wow....then it's only a matter of time then..........

I'm with you man. I should have known better than to finally open this thread. This whole Gruden to UT stuff is tiresome and not even worth speculating about. If and when Dooley is gone maybe...but I doubt it.
