Everyone posting in this thread does realize that the team currently destroying the rest of college football in Tuscaloosa is only doing so because their fans and major boosters had exactly the opposite mindset that you have, right? Why did Alabama get Saban? Because they did what was necessary.
Now I'm not going to sit here and tell you we're getting Gruden. I doubt very seriously we will. But the man has said he is open to coaching the college, he has shown a previous affinity for the University, and if he becomes a realistic option at any point I highly doubt finding the money to pay him his $5M is going to be that difficult.
So go ahead and continue decrying the ability of this University to hire a top of the line coach. But you get what you pay for, and in the long run it does this program a disservice to pretend like we aren't here to play with the big boys.
I hope Dooley turns the ship around and becomes the coach everyone wants him to be. I like the man personally. But if he doesn't it's our responsibility as alums, ticket-holders, and vested members of the UT community to hold Dave Hart accountable and make it clear to him that we expect him to spend what is necessary to bring in a coach that will allow us to compete at the level Tennessee should compete at.
