Guess I'll rile things up a little. Sorry.

  • How in the sam hell are we suppose to get anywhere replacing a coach every year. I just love starting over every year with a different workout philosophy. People say 'this happens all the time'. Yeah..To us! Usually a team has gotten a few decent wins, maybe cleaned house in a couple of good bowls and THEN we wave byebye to someone on the staff.

Usually you win a little bit first before teams come poaching.

Fulmer Curse is alive and well. They are going to have to install revolving doors in the new complex.

    /TOS-ish meltdown complete.

I'm surprised at the uproar that losing a staff member such as a strength and conditioning coach can cause these days.

It's a bit of an inconvenience for Tennessee to have to go out and hire a new strength coach, if Wylie indeed has taken the Texas job. But I don't know that it's a huge, huge deal to the point that fans should be really upset over it. Wylie is very good at what he does, by all accounts, and it would be a tough loss for UT. I just tend to think there are other good strength coaches out there, and the Vols probably are capable of finding another one who will do nearly as good of a job.

  • I'm feigning upset actually...wanted to see how the other half lives. But seriously man, I'm wore out. Here's what I want. I want a staff, including and especially the strength coach to not move for 2 years as a whole. The guys get used to a strength guy and they are just like any coach. This coach is basically their daddy for the summer.

  • I'm trying really hard to get worked up over this. Maybe if we could have a detailed, multi-thread analysis of Scott Wells' recruiting - oh wait...

  • I guess the one thing that concerns me is the quickness at which we are losing staff members. It was almost 2 coaches but Dooley worked his magic and held on to Wilcox.

I'm just used to seeing a staff (at most major schools) intact for a 2 or 3 successful seasons before staff start moving on to upgrade their resume. Right now, it seems we are just a pit-stop for a year before moving on. I mean, have we sunk that low..or have the 90's just skewed me into thinking we were a upper echelon program than what we really are?

Are we the Wisconsin of the SEC? Need to get a game changing player once a decade in order to make a couple of runs and then vanish again for a while?

  • You've got to separate this situation from Kiffy's. Last year was just an aboration. They were a bunch of con men. This year is a good situation to be in when other schools are coming after our coaches after just one promising, but not overly successful year. Just means that Mack Brown sees something in our staff that he likes.
Moffitt, Myslynski.....I don't know who it's gonna be, but I have full faith and confidence that Dooley will bring in another good one. And yes, somebody else will eventually come after him too. Doesn't mean he's gonna go though.

I'll settle for what we have -- a returning head coach for the first time in three years, and returning coordinators for the first time in two. That's major in my book.

We can replace a strength coach. No worries here.

  • Hears the deal in my book.....

We finally have a head coach comfortable enough in his own skin to hire best and brightest. When you do that, best in class coaches are going to be perpetually saught after.

After living in Dallas for 16 years, I can see how a Texas native like Wylie would want to come home.

    We will be fine.

  • It's just a S&C coach. Yes he was a good one, but kept Wilcox after Texas tried to pull him. No way in heck Diaz was texas's first choice. UT will be fine with the coach/qb combination it has now.

This is great for us and let me tell you why in two words: muscle confusion.

  • Arent we still paying Mark Smith? Kiffin gave him some huge buyout. Just bring him back. South Carolina always seemed to have solid athletes when he was there. Then the snake oil salesman drew him in and screwed him over, 6 months before he did it to us

Does anyone know how much he was paid at UT and how much he will make at UT?

    Spevol

  • He was making $225,000 in a two year deal... at Texas Im sure he will be around $300,000 maybe higher.

Yeah I don't blame him tbh.

  • Hate losing Wylie, but remember one huge concern when coach Fulmer was HC....we all bemoaned lack of coaching turnover.

The word FAN is a derivative of the word FANATIC.
