  • This is great news!! Thanks Ryan

  • Great get Coach Jones! Great Move to "postpone " the original meeting to block the visit to OR. Good interview, Ryan. Get him on the weights and the training table and get some touches! Exciting stuff.

  • I have a question. This is where the star system doesn't make sense to me. To me, judging by the offers this kid has, he is an elite prospect. I mean, he's got offers from as far away as California and everywhere in between. And, they are top notch programs. If I look at him objectively, I see a ton of potential. So, why the three stars?

This is one of many examples of what we tell people all the time — and yet people still don't believe: "Three stars" doesn't mean "average." There can only be around 300 or so four-star prospects in a given recruiting class. That means there are always going to be three-star prospects who turn out to be really good players at the next level, and that's by design. It's only some fans who interpret three-star prospects as being "average" or something along those lines.

Like you said, Harris is a very good prospect, as are a few of the other three-stars who currently are committed to Tennessee. Don't read too much into the fact that there are three stars next to his name. The bottom line is you have to draw the line somewhere, and Harris happens to be not too far below the line between three stars and four stars.

  • Does Harris come close to the Speed of Hunter? i was thinking he is more of a 4.5 speedster compared to Hunte's sub 4-4 at times.

Average? Let's really put this into perspective, Ryan.

There are approximately 14,445 high schools in the US. If we assume only half of those have football programs, that means that there are approximately a half a million high school kids playing football. Approximately 100,000 are seniors.

(Assumes that there are 7225 football programs times 75 players divided by 4)

Whether this young man is the number 400 or number 500 or number 1000 best high school senior in the country, he is far from average. My gosh, there are at least 99,000 other high school players that are not as good as he is.

    Average. Yeah, right.

You're preaching to the choir on this one. I'm making the point that three-star prospects aren't average. I'm just telling you what some fans - many of them, actually - seem to believe.

Another stat for you. There are between 800-1000 college-level football programs – NCAA, all levels, and NAIA. they take about 2000 freshman players each year. Being 4 or 500th in the rankings is still above average.

Another point, a friend of mine's son, in 2009 was a senior in high school and ranked about 3300. So, that indicates that quite a few high school players are ranked each year as well.

  • For my part take an "average" 3-star player and put them in a good offense with a great scheme and excellent coaches with the ability to inspire the work ethic and you'll get 4 and 5 star results with some regularity!

  • Is he physically capable of playing early? Seems like he needs to add a lot of weight, but the receiver need could be pressing if Hunter and Patterson both leave.
