Hooker Throws Dooley Under The Bus On Atl Radio

  • Just heard Dave Hooker being interviewed on 680 The Fan. He says Dooley needs to win 9 games this year to keep his job. His source is one of the departed coaches. He made a very strong point that they all left voluntarily. He says Dooley gave DaRick to much rope and that helped cause him to fail. Hooker did it all in a very nondescript manner but the message I took away is Hooker doesn't like Dooley. I have never been a Hooker fan but this surprised me some.

    I completely agree that Dooley gave Rogers too much rope and that has lead to some of his problems. Swain and Rucker said today on their radio show that Dooley's failure to deal with Rogers' behavior last year undermined his authority with players and contributed to coaches leaving - specifically Baggett and Arnett.

  • Hooker's just trying to earn his Travis Badge. I would give his comments zero credibility.

    A prime rule of journalism is that a disgruntled ex-employee -- in this case, an ex coach -- is the worst possible source you can have.

    I have to disagree about Baggett and Arnett. Baggett simply did not want to recruit off campus and Arnett's family situation is well documented. As far as too much rope I would ask how he could have dealt with it differently?

    Can you imagine Arnett in the slot with Hunter and CP on the outsides?

  • Hooker is a hack and a major jerk. When Kiffin was hired, the entire KNS staff was scooped - except one writer. I posted a comment simply stating they got scooped by Chris Low and another national reporter - except the one writer.

    Hooker got into an e-mail flame-out with me - an unknown nobody. Then he ripped his co-worker.

    I passed them on to his co-worker who amused and not particularly surprised.

    Whatever DD's magic number is, you can bet the farm now that it is NOT 9.

    More to the point, there is no magic number.

    No offense, but there's one problem with your story. It's where you say the KNS was scooped "except (for) one writer." If one KNS writer knew, the KNS was not scooped. He's required to share such a big story with his editor and fellow writers. If he doesn't, he's unemployed.

    He used to write for the KNS but I think now he is somehow a part of ESPN in K-town. The guys on 680 The Fan called him for comments on DaRick.

    If I were a coach who got pushed out the door Im pretty sure I'd tell the media I "left voluntarily" too. Particularly if I had an ax to grind with DD and even more particularly if I were recruiting against him now. Hookers a hack. He loves to stir the pot with the fan base. He's one of the biggest reasons I stopped listening to the other station before TSR arrived.

    "Count it down with me. Five, four, three, two, one. The national champion is clad in Big Orange!"

    Maybe swain and rucker need to take a step back and realize that keeping Da'Rick on the field is what prevented UT from losing 8 games and gave Dooley another year

  • Hooker is worthless and basically a slime ball (I have met him through mutual friends numerous times), however, he is spot on in the assessment that CDD gave DR WAY too many free passes. Hopefully not only did DR learn from this, but our HC did as well. I don't expect him to let a player hold him hostage any more regardless of that players physical talent and production.
