How Much UGA Stuff is the Team Practicing...

  • I know you can't do all UGA prep, but I think they'd be taking 15-30 minutes of the end of practice going over stuff. We are going to beat Akron, that is a given, do you guys think we will start prepping now? I sure hope so, going to need every advantage we can get...

I like UGA a lot this year. A ton of talent on defense, a good QB, and a solid running game...

1 Thing that will help us a ton this year is Malcolm Mitchell is on defense. He routinely ran by our CB's last year. Do I think we will win, no. But the game should be close. This week we should run the ball 60-40 or 65-35, we have to get used to firing off the ball.

We aren't going to beat good SEC teams with deep passes. They are going to defend that. We have to somehow grind out drives, and keep our defense off the field. If we do so, we can keep this game close.

On another note: Dooley completely threw Chaney under the bus saying we can;t throw the ball 44 times against good teams. It's true and I'm glad he said that. I hope we see a more committed effort to running the football. Go Vols!

This is a classic fail. You never, I mean never, overlook a coming opponent. UT football history is filled with examples of loses to teams nobody saw coming:

Rutgers (before anybody in the South had ever neard of them)
    North Texas State
Memphis (despite Peyton Manning at QB)
Wyoming (Fulmer just got the pink slip)
    Kentucky (Sorry,I could not resist)

For somebody who claims to know football, this post is a nonstarter.

I'm only talking about 15-30 minutes buddy...

Saban when he 1st started at Bama spent the last 15 minutes of every practice prepping for Auburn stuff. So no it's not a fail, 15 minutes isn't the entire practice. Tons of teams do it, they just won't publicly say it

Saban might do it because his team is near NFL caliber, bucko.

UT needs to focus on Akron this week. Georgia is next week.

This team cannot assume any victories.

Not when he 1st started they weren't NFL caliber. Teams do it, not sure what you don't understand.

I agree that teams most defiantly look ahead / prepare, but not teams with our mental maturity IMO.

That is where I was going to go next. It's a shame we are immature and not mentally mature but it is what it is. I still bet we prep for some UGA stuff. Playing the 3-4 defense helps us out. Hard to prep for a Jarvis Jones, we don't have that guy.

The Zips are bad, really bad they lost 56-14 at home to UCF. UCF ain't bad but at home to lose by that much isn't good. I know our team acts like 12 year olds sometimes, but even just going over UGA tendancies, or there go to plays would be a good start for next week. You know Sal will spend 1-2 days on Akron and the rest on UGA this week.

Who knows what the coaches do behind the doors of the super secret closed practices...they very well could overlook toward Georgia.

You may think that. For someone who has covered and followed football for 35 years, I know better.

It's a shame because we will never know... Would be a good question for Swain tomorrow or Ainge. I know those teams were better, and had better leadership, but it'd be interesting what they had to say.

  • This team is still working on fundamentals and learning this defense. Game prep for a team two games down the road is beyond them and would create far too much confusion.

Point taken. Probably your best. Randolph out, Maggitt and Lathers uncertainties, Need for speed at CB, they have to find an 11 that can play at a higher level 1st. I'll conceed this one in this case.

Interesting and classy back and forth between you guys. +1 for both of you! clap

  • You're a good guy, Driz. And what I like the most about you is that you are a VFL. We don't have many of those in Philly.

You have hit on a key when you refer to 'fundamentals and learning this defense'. In all our excitement as fans we forget the transition to the 3-4 is not going to be without problems. The year UGA switched they went 6-6. I don't think we will be that bad because of our schedule. I hope by the last 4 to 5 games we are playing better. That late season uptick could get us a win at USCe and more likely a win vs Mizzou. My prediction of 8-4 is going to be a tight pull but I think we get there.

  • Its a good week to work on fundamentals and work on what UT does best.

We have plenty to work on after that FL game on our own.......I have always believed work on your own faults and strengths 90% of the time and then 10% on an opponent......a week is plenty for UGA.

  • Coaches are probably looking ahead without the players knowing. They may even be practicing them for Georgia some without players knowing. As a coach, we do that all the time but we never let our players know it.
