How do you feel about Greg Roman

  • I'm wondering why I'm not hearing more from everybody about Roman. I really think there could be something to him. Lot of success at Stanford and San Fran. Got a great offensive mind. Is it just the lack of HC experience for most of you? I can understand that

I love him. I think he would embrace the university. The people in it. And its traditions. He WANTS this job.

  • from what i have read it seems like he would really want to come coach here. I don't know a whole lot about him but his offense looks pretty good. Ive been wodering a little of the same why we haven't heard a whole lot but i guess it is because the lack of HC experience. I would like to have a coach that wants to be here and he seems like he would want to coach here.

  • I would be thrilled with Roman.

  • Possible HUGE upside.

  • The only thing I wonder about with him is how much of his success is his and not Harbaugh

That's been my favorite of the 2nd tiers. You hit on my only potential concern though.
But like someone above said, he really wants it. Unlike gruden apparently.

  • I am a huge Roman fan. Surrounded with the right staff I think he is up there for best options available.

  • If we strike out on the Strong/Fedora camp, I'd love to see a serious run at Roman. Does anyone know if he'd be able to convince Fangio to come with him? If we could pull him as well, that'd put this program back on track in a heartbeat.

  • I may be crazy, and have been accused of that many times before, but I'd rather hire Roman over Fisher/Strong/Fedora/Golden and use all of that left over money on the best DC and Strength coach money can buy

I'd think another part of this is would he be willing to leave the 49ers in the midst of a possible Super Bowl run? Because if he wants to come to Knoxville, he'd have to leave soon. I doubt Harbaugh would let him stay on, knowing he wouldn't be 100% dedicated to the team.

  • Someone said it before me in another thread, but I agree that he is the next big thing. I'd love to hear what some of our more well known posters think about him

  • My favorite offense in football is that of the 49ers. I'd be excited about a Roman hire.

  • My #2. Good hire

Love the guy. He's a hot name and as VolFan65 said he WANTS the job. I'd prefer him if we can't get Strong or end up having to go the coordinator route. I think Gruden is dead even after the TFP article that came out.

  • He would be my 2nd choice also. The offense he runs would work in the SEC and you probably wouldn't have to break the bank to get him. I think it would be a good move. I like it better than Golden or Butch Jones for sure.

Very valid point. Does anyone know about his recruiting at Stanford or elsewhere?

  • Not to be a Lemming, but I have to agree on this one. We have someone who WANTS TO BE HERE and they're not even talking to him. You'll get better performance and more commitment from someone who wants to be here than you will from someone who has to be convinced to come here. Take some of the big wad of sweaty money that is being thrown (or not thrown) at Gruden, bring in a top-notch offensive mind and let him hire a top-notch defensive coordinator and the football version of the basketball team's strength and conditioning coach. Sexy hire, no. Long-term investment with + return, yes. My twocents.

+1 my friend. If we don't get this guy, someone else will in the next 2 years I'd say. He's gonna be really successful somewhere.
