  • ryan with us running the pro style offense with kids we done recruited for..i know its early for this question..but does jones try and change every thing to his style of offense year 1?or would taking time to put his offense system..in at tenn?

like some reported onquarterback QB Asaintii Woulard if i heard right from swain&rucker he called tenn .and he has decommitted already.
does this spell asaintii to tenn ?and if so wouldnt make since to take riley and him in the same class would it..i could see riley going where chaney goes and this sucks i know..since hes been committed all this time..thanks for the info

  • Good post - we are anxiously awaiting to see which assistants Coach Jones decides to keep from Cin and the Vols.

Getting a personal endorsement from Peyton, Al, Jason, Eric of course Tee and a few others will help open a lot of doors.
Will Bray, Justin and some of the others consider staying in your opinion? CP is gone from what i've heard from friends(one a cousin) at Gibbs Hall.
Maybe we'll know more after the presser.
    Thanks!

  • Jones recruited the Southeast pretty heavily while at Cincinnati. Players from the region in last three classes:
    2013 (current commits): FL-4, GA-1
    2012: FL-7, TN-2, KY-1
    2011: FL-6, GA-4
He also had Fla. LB Kenneth Bynum committed before he switched to Tennessee last year, and they got QB Munchie Legaux out of Louisiana in the 2010 class

This post lacks any analysis of the effect of the current dysfunction between the atheletic department and the faculty will have on Jones' ability to recuit

I understand there is a lot of talk about this, and I am not disagreeing because I have no info, what I wonder is how did Omari Phillips get in here after not being admitted to FL if we are such a tough place to get into?

I wish people would stop with the 'my (blank) heard (blank) is leaving.' We don't know who's doing what.

  • Butch Jones on his meeting w/ UC players: "Everything we do is based on the core value of family...I told them this was my dream job."

He was not my first pick, but I am thrilled to have a coach of his caliber and this type of mentality.

That didn't instill a lot of confidence in regard to recruiting the south. I really hope he hires some strong recruiters that already have inroads. Not worried about his ability to coach them up at all, but we have to get them here first. Woulard would be a nice first step.

Look for Tee Martin to be his first BIG hire. Should and probably will keep Graham & Pittman. That gives him some really good ties to the south...JMO

he mentioned in his presser that the best coaches adjust to the players on his roster

  • I think CBJ will do well as a recruiter. His staff worked tirelessly and never stopped recruiting right up to signing day and after. They were very active in Georgia and Florida, two states where I think Tennessee will have to do well to be successful. They also worked hard on breaking into TN.

The results were pretty good - Bennie, Chris Moore, RDA4, Errol Clarke, Silverberry Mouhon, Alex Chisum, Munchie Legaux. He also had Ken Bynum until he flipped to Tennessee.

If CBJ is not successful recruiting in the South, it won't be for lack of effort.

I doubt Bray reconsiders if he's leaning towards going. While CBJ would be lucky to have him, he isn't the ideal fit for his offense either.

Bits and pieces of this have been pointed out elsewhere on the site, but not quite in the following way.

People in the fan base are questioning Jones' ability to recruit, particularly compared to his predecessor (now at Notre Dame) and to his border rival at Louisville, Strong.

Apparently, he has recruited better classes to UC than Kelley did at UC. Kelly seems to have worked out well for Notre Dame. Doesn't that suggest he is a recruiter?

Everyone acknowledges how good a recruiter Strong is, primarily off his efforts as an assistant at other schools and at Louisville. Well, I can't comment on Jones' recruiting efforts at other schools but, and let me repeat that, BUT as others have pointed out, Jones's recruiting class rankings at UC have been SUBSTANTIALLY better than Strong's at Louisville during the same time frame. Doesn't that suggest Jones is a recruiter.

Of course, by SEC standards, those recruiting efforts at UC haven't been SEC calibre. But neither have Strong's at Louisville.

Finally, a coach with no winning record had better recruiting results than Jones did. But, that was drawing kids to an SEC school with great facilities, not a school where the coaches had to do janitorial work on Labor Day (Cinncinati). A Big East school that should never be able to match up with UT for recruiting.

I bet Jones will do well recruiting for Tennessee. He did better than Kelly and Strong. He has Tennessee. He has a winning record. Imagine how much better that will sell Tennessee than not having one did.

Strong inherited a 4-8 football team and still out-recruited Cinci in the 2011 cycle, I believe. Louisville had a better recruiting class in 2012. Who knows what would have happened for the 2013 recruiting cycle, which is far from over, if Jones had stayed, now that Strong has committed to Louisville long-term. So saying Jones out recruited Strong is inaccurate.

It is my understanding that he did qualify for FL

  • Caught the tailend of an interview on the radio here in Memphis with a high school coach that said the UC coaches, particularly Elder, alway come in and are well prepared and organized and almost always come away with the kids they target. Said Elder know the lay or the land in Memphis and Mississippi. He was very impressed FyI

Phillips was turned away at the 11th hour by Florida admissions. That's how we ended up with him. From what is being said he may not last here.

looking back at recruiting rankings...Jones did better recruiting at Cincy than Kelly did.

Cincinnati fan here...Jones is a non-stop recruiter and as mentioned here will recruit Georgia as well as Florida well. He can recruit circles around Kelly. I never saw Kelly as a good recruiter. Kelly always struck me as being too good for recruiting and as a result left Cincinnati with a lot of wholes depth wise when he left.

Jones on the other hand has done a fine job with recruiting the last 3 years and has left UC with the greatest amount of depth we've probably ever had.

X's & O's - Kelly is one of the finest coaches I've ever seen when it comes to evaluating talent, understanding their strengths & weaknesses and putting them in positions to succeed. He also is a master at exploiting team's weaknesses. Jones, on the other hand, isn't there from an X's and O's standpoint. He certainly doesn't have the same level of experience and I know that drove us fans nuts with many of his decisions and game management. With that said, we certainly would've kept him and allowed him to continue to grow.

Jones is a stand-up guy that will preach a lot of 'family'. That isn't sitting very well in Cincinnati these days as you can imagine. His former players love him dearly though and would've run through a burning building for him. He also runs a very clean program.

Best of luck with your new hire. I'll be rooting for him.
