A) a win vs Bama and get routed vs SC
B) a close loss to Bama and beat the brakes off of SC

Great question...
If we beat Bama and get routed by SC, the Bama game will come off to some as a fluke. I'll go with B. Because if we lose close to Bama, and beat up on SC then that would mean we put 2 games together in a row against good teams. It would be a sure sign of movement in the right direction.

If Dooley beats Bama he will be retained regardless of what happens with USC - unless there is an epic collapse in November. Plus, losing to an unranked team would severely hurt their NC hopes, especially if we get demolished by USC.

I agree- a win vs Bama would essentially wipe the slate clean for Dooley this season.

A
Reason being if beating the no. 1 ranked country in the nation who is a rival, I'll take it. It doesn't matter if we lose big or small to SC at this point. We're out of the SEC East race. But it can still matter to a lot of people if we knock off number one.
A lot of pride comes with that.

If you beat Bama and go on to go 8-4 and perhaps even get a bowl victory, there aren't many people who would think that victory would be much of a fluke. Especially if we were in contention come the fourth quarter in 3 of our 4 losses...which would all be highly ranked teams.

Gotta go with Bama. First, it could keep them out of the NC. Second, they're higher ranked which would mean a better win for us. Third, I hate Bama more.

Sorry, I'm in the Nasville area. If we lost to Vandy then listening to Clay Travis would be worse than...man I'm at a loss...it may be the worst thing ever.
