I am sick and tired of...

  • I am sick and tired of people dogging Cuonzo Martin and our team! Do we have issues on offense? Yes. Do we need to work on shots and set plays? Yes. But, for God's sake people, we WON THE GAME!!!! Quit being so damn negative all the time! I would think that after all the losing that our fan base has had to endure over the last five years that we would appreciate a winning team; but no, we have to sit back and complain because the team isn't perfect and because they're boring and because they don't score enough and blah blah blah blah blah. Good God, people, those kids are playing their hearts out every night and winning basketball games and we're sitting here bashing them like they're 0-11! Quit complaining and just enjoy the wins!

  • You are paying far too much attention to a vocal minority. Most Vol fans are fairly ambivalent about Cuonzo but if you pressed them they would say good things about him and this team.

  • I don't think it's all negative.... Honestly why aren't we allowed to be critical? I'm always going to support the team, but I'm sure as heck going to be critical at times if I don't like what I see. That's not being negative.

  • Smokey I don't want to read that language. I don't know why some have to be negative makes me bad sometimes too.

  • People look at things differently than you... It's about expectations IMO.

I look at improvement and how you would match up with the better teams in the league.

What do people think is a good year for this team. IMO if you make the tourney that's a good year.

There is obvious problems with this team. No leadership, no PG, no shooting. Getting to the tourney would be a good year for this team.

Agreed Pastor Jax......Why do people use that term so loosely? That makes me mad more than the negativity, tho I am bothered by so much negative by some folks. The glass is always half empty, and never half full!soapbox

I too agree that being critical is far different than being negative....example for critical: The UT mens BB offense could really improve with some things.
example for negative: The UT mens BB offense really sucks, and can't do jack. If people would remove emotions from their comments, and think about things a bit more objectively, they would probably get a more welcomed reaction. IMHO

  • Those guys are not playing their hearts out, not even close. That's why Golden and Stokes sat and watched the game. The best player on the team is Richardson and he gives his all for the team every game.Jarnell and Golden should not start another game until they decide to give 100%. It is a shame that these two very talented players don't give effort. Yemi should start and Reese should play more. To be outrebounded by more than 10 and give up 17 possesssions with offensive rebounds is inexcusable. Jarnell had 3 total rebounds.I don't complain about missing shots but effort is another thing. We can expect these young men to give effort every game. We won this game because the bench wanted to play and give the effort required. Thanks to Cuonzo for having the guts to play them extended minutes.

  • Martin does not play a "flashy" style of basketball. That's a big key to the Gene Keady/Purdue coaching tree. So while it may not draw the eyeballs like the Bulls during Jordan's run or the "Showtime" era in Los Angeles, it is an effective system, especially when you have the players in place to run it effectively. This team under Martin is more like the Spurs - not flashy or "showy", but they find ways to get the job done and put themselves in position to win games, which leads to winning division/conference/league titles.

  • EDIT: This reply was meant for allvolrog.

To be fair, I think Golden has a shoulder injury which probably explains his struggles tonight.

I'm with you on Stokes, though. My impression of him is that he works hard, but he's just not mean enough to dominate people like he can. Every once in a while he will pull off a move to the basket that shows how talented he is, but rarely do you see him just muscle his way to the basket (and when he does, he usually gets stripped anyway). Someone needs to give him the Adam Sandler "Waterboy" treatment and unleash some rage in him. Him being timid - not demanding the ball and not using his muscle effectively - is the biggest reason we struggle offensively IMO.

I hope Yemi can develop some good offensive moves because you're right he's one of the hardest workers on that team. Unfortunately, even he said tonight, "if I don't get offensive rebounds I might not score a point" which is pretty much true. He'll end up being a really solid post player but right now he's still developing that part of his game.
