He seems to be pressing all the right buttons so far. However, the real test for Butch begins August 31. Gotta win games.

Players react positively to Dooley hiring

UT football players voiced their opinions Friday night at Derek Dooley's introduction press conference, and they are looking forward to getting to know their new coach.

Very good point. Especially the point where Bryce Brown said that he thought Dooley was a player's coach and was sitting down with every player getting to know them. Sound familiar?

Obviously we are differently opinionated on this matter. I believe Butch is different and will be much better than Dooley and Kiffin. You can't sit there and look at based on what Jones has done so far that he even compares to Dooley or Kiffin. I understand fans being passive bc we have been down for a while. But if you live in yesterday you loose today and tomorrow you will get caught living in today. But we will see. I believe and hope Butch turns it around. But people have to be a little optimistic. Nothing will ever change with an attitude that is passive and cautious. But I understand where you are coming from! We all want the same thing. And I think Butch will get us that! GBO!

Difference is Butch is doing that and Dooley never did. Dooley was all talk no game. Remember all the players who hated playing for him? All the negative things from high school coaches and coming out of recruiting? And everything Butch Jones has said he has backed it up. All we have heard is nothing but good and great things about the new staff from people. Take a chance and believe that somebody could actually be different. GBO

im with you vols8 ,i agree the 1 thing stcks out from butch he is a proven winner .he won 4 out 6 years

he knows what it takes to win championship, dooley and kiffin wasnt winners when they showed up and didnt back the talk up,sure they said the right things.

i feel that butch want over look the small things that it takes to be good on the field, and limit turnovers
and have a team to play displine football,we have been lacking at that,i also think he will have these players in shape and play 4 quarter's of football, and knows how to adjust at halftime.
    just win win ...go vols

There are two schools of thought in the bringing in of new coaches.

1.) Blindly be optimistic and take everything the coach says as the gospel. Not a bad way to be, but you also set yourself up to be burned if he doesn't pan out (Dooley) or if he leaves to go elsewhere (Kiffin). What do you gain by this school of thought? The ability to say you were right if they pan out? Like I said, it's not a bad way to be, just a way to approach a coaching hire.

2.) Be patient, and let the coach's results speak for themselves. After learning from the Kiffin experiment, I have taken the patient approach. If the coach wants to fire up the fans of the aforementioned mindset, that's fantastic. We need our fiery fans to be fired up. But he has to be weary that those same fans will be looking for his head the second he makes the school look foolish because of said comments.

Butch Jones has made some fantastic strides in repairing the fans that have felt scorned by the last two coaches. He has also been successful at every school he has been in. But I haven't seen him take on a job like this, so I will remain skeptical. I reserve the right to be this way, and I don't criticize you for your choice. Just throwing out my thought process for the board.

    As always, Go Vols.

Not really all that different. I'm cautiously optimistic. I just choose not to go around voicing that optimism. Coaches are smooth talkers. They will always say the right things. I don't really care about much until we see the product on the field. Then we will have a better understanding of his coaching abilities.
I like what I'm seeing from the recruiting front. But again, that means nothing until signing day next year, and the fax machine is lighting up for us.

Let me clarify one thing. I'm going to be at every home game, and at Oregon cheering the Vols on hard as I can. If Dooley was the coach I'd be cheering them on with the same intensity. I just choose to lay back on patting the back of the coach until he does something worthy of that. I will always support the players regardless of the coach for the work that they put on regardless of their coach.

I for one will agree with everything you've had to say so far. Dooley was down on UT football team the entire time he was here. He constantly fired shots at his players and right out of the gate at that! Remember the whole showering incident? You should run your football team kinda like the mafia, what happens in the family stays in the family. Don't go public trying to embarrass me and then expect me to shed my blood, sweat and tears for you on Saturday. Chew my butt, hold me accountable, but don't go public on me or my team just because you want to get a few laughs out of the media. Also we do need to get behind our coach and quit waiting for the other shoe to fall all of the time. Here's something for everyone that says "we've heard this before" that you haven't heard from or about the prior 2 coaches.... 4 out of 6! Yes 4 conference championships out of 6 yrs as a HC and it doesn't really matter what conference because no matter were you coach you still have to be pretty decent to have that kind of resume! So no matter what you say the guy is a winner and has the credentials to prove it and he's a REAL players coach........just listen to a lot of the former UT players that say he's a players coach, I don't really recall them saying the same for the last 2 Losers!

I think that's the main point RVol. No matter your opinion of the coaches we support the Vols.
IMO I think CBJ will be great, but no matter the outcome of the season I will be a fan. Not one that leaves at half time, not one that doesn't go to to boring games. If I lived closer that 200 miles, I would be at more home games. VFL, go VOLS

Yes they said all the right things but what you are forgetting is they both had losing records when they were hired butch jones didn't. It is ok to be a realist but some times you have to have a little faith also! The ones that are saying we will see if he wins games will be the first ones to say I knew he was going to be good all along lol

You seem to be forgetting that he hasn't done anything yet against Florida, Alabama, Georgia, and the other SEC teams that are ahead of us.

Look, I could spin things and make CBJ look like the greatest hire ever, I just choose not to. That's all. And I have faith. That's why I'm looking forward to the season to start and not complaining about him.

I'm used to not having to run off at the mouth about how great my school and coach is. It used to be understood. No talk required. You younger fans out there are not. That's something a Vandy fan would do.

Chill bro, I don't the poster meant any disrespect. It looked as he was putting humor in his post? I mean comparing someone to a Vandy fan is like calling them a SOB! Lol! Also just for the record I'm an older Vol fan myself and we don't have the swagger that's obvious but until Peyton, Jamal or Al walks back on the field dressed in orange then some of us will have to talk our team up! Look at last season, yea we stunk the field up but I still bragged all of the time about our AWESOME playmakers on the field. We were in EVERY game we played last year except for Bama and then Vandy...well we just decided not to play at all but with CBJ on the sideline we win more of those games than we lose. Also it's not running off at the mouth it's just telling the truth! You can say "oh he has to coach in the SEC before you can be a good coach" really??? Tressel was at a division 2 school and he did just fine at OSU, Saban didn't come from the SEC and neither did Sumlin, musCHUMP, or Freeze. So really your whole "you gotta be from the SEC is kinda weak" so take you Valium or your Geritol and just chill
