I hate to say this, but I honestly don't care who we hire now

  • I know I'll get ripped for saying this, but the idea of Gruden got me excited about Tennessee football. I mean loading the family up and driving up for the spring game this year. That kind of excited.

    No disrepect to Larry Fedora or Al Golden, but I'm not coming to the spring game if that's the best we can do.

    I can finally get back to work, cancel my Volquest subscription, 247 subscriptions and work on guitars at night in my shop like i was doing before this BS started happening.

    Drama queen I guess, but college football is huge business these days. Arky offering Miles over $5mil. If we go out and hire I guy I have to google for $2.5mil, I'll find something better to do.

    UK fans aren't rushing to buy season tickets when the Mark Stoops announcement was made and neither will Tennessee fans when we roll out Al Golden, Larry, or Strong.

  • I don't think you are alone in your sentiment, and I understand it.

    My guess is many fans feel like you do, and we should start transitioning ourselves from being one of the most loyal/passionate fanbases to being one of the most entitled.

    I am getting to that point also so I understand. I am an alumni and have a child there now. It has all become way to discouraging and this is kinda the final straw.

  • Probably right OMG...anything other than a Gruden/Stoops type hire is probably anti-climatic @ best. Not saying that's the correct attitude for the fan base, but a realistic one if it goes down that way. With all the hoopla around Gruden the last month or so, a Strong, Fedora, Golden, even Fisher hire will likely get the "2nd fiddle" welcome to UT!

    Not going to rip you OMG, i just guess we are different. I would love to see Gruden as much as anyone. He would bring passion and personality to the position. Im not going to lie, Golden and/or Fedora would be "disappointing"..but i'd get over it after a couple days and would be right behind whoever we hire come spring, i'll guarantee you that. Orange is in my blood, it's in my soul. I cant do anything about it at this stage of my life, and lord knows I have fought it, but no longer. I am a raging, passionate, temperamental, idiotic vol fan..and you know what, Im proud of it. If we win 12 games a year and a NC, i will celebrate like no one else. If we lose every game and become the laughingstock of the SEC I'll bang my head against the wall like everyone else, but either way..I am going to root and cheer like heck for my home state school. Always have, and always will. VFL aint just a motto man, it's words to live by. It's just that simple.

    A lot of vol fans will be disappointed, but we will still cheer for the orange. Gruden might have went 6 and 6 and then everybody would be hollering what a waste of money.Get him out here. Any hire is a risk including Gruden. He is n ot a football God. hasn't coached in college in years. Got fired from his last coaching job. Maybe someone else can bring a winner if the vol nation will get behind them. Go Orange with WHOEVER.

    Seriously? Not singling you out at all, volfan28 — you know you're one of our favorite posters — but I don't understand this mindset, which appears to be very prevalent among UT fans. I get that people are disappointed that it currently appears it's not going to happen with Gruden, but it was always a long shot. There are plenty of other good coaches out there.

  • In the mid-1990s, Oklahoma hired Howard Schnellenberger for one year then fired him. The next year they hired John Blake who ran the program into the ground with 12 wins over a three-year span.

    When John Blake was fired, sooner nation went bananas that we had to hire Dennis Franchione from TCU. When we ended up hiring some guy who was Florida's defensive coordinator, everyone wanted to stay home. In two years that unknown guy had a crystal football. Think about it.

    Im sure some of these other canidates will be great coaches, just dont think they can bring that wow factor that Gruden could, JMO.
