I think Dooley will demote Sal tomorrow...

Yes let's promote the coach of the worst position group

I suspect he does what his boss asks and it's scheme that's the problem rather than Conklin's coaching. But who knows?

Just some growing pains. Stay the course. Don't want to do anything hasty. Everyone just trust the head coach. He knows what he's doing.

Hey, I've been there. Sometimes it's the head coach or coordinator's call. I've been part of that before.

Not trying to be a smart a@#, but I'm not seeing any growth you see with growing pains. Today showed me they just are not getting better.

Does he? Because in year 3 we have the worst defense in school history. I thought we were supposed to be improving. At least we have an offense that can score.

  • Dooley's got this under control. I mean us there any doubt. He wouldn't have hired Sal if he didn't know what he was doing. He's CDD's guy and we all have faith Dooley is the right guy.

  • A top notch linebackers coach does not a great DC make. He's a beginner at being a DC.

Uh, dudes, YOU'RE not being the smart@$$, HE is. And he's pulling your chains. As a very wise man posted above, trolls stir

I just think Dooley is too stubborn. He said all off season Sunersi was his #1 guy. He's said he's not going to adjust play calling. Just don't see him pulling the plug.

JMO, but I think it's too late now to do anything other than change your play caller on D. If you wanted to try to change the system, the off week was the time.

  • I would usually think this is crazy but it can't get any worse. The defensive scheme simply doesn't work for us.

It is like sal stole bama's d play book except he forgot the important page. Plus we have almost no talent on the back end.

Maybe our secondary coaches do not understand the defense and therefore can't coach it.

This, I disagree with, which is why I think we HAVE to make a change. You cannot possibly think that our DB's are so bad, purely from a talent standpoint, that Troy...TROY should have done that to them. If you are put out of position from the snap of the ball because of the play call, then talent's only going to help you make up so much. Prentiss was all-SEC last year and has been a good player, now all the sudden he's forgotten how to play? Byron Moore was a big JUCO pickup who chose us after going to USC and then become a highly desired JUCO player. McNeil, while a freshman, certainly has loads of talent, as does Gray, Gordon, Coleman... Is our talent the best in the country? no, but you cannot tell me that its so bad that it should allow troy to do what they did to us. This was the worst defensive outing in Vols history, and it's certainly not one of the most talent-less on D. There's a disconnect somewhere. Whether it's the coaching by position coaches or alignment, a combination of the two, i dont know. But when you have the decent amount of talent we have and get burned like that, you have to make a change.

I agree, we weren't this bad last year with Wilcox and we have largely the same people playing. The change to 3-4 was supposed to be painful, but there is no way they can tell me this is gettign better. Look at Georgia's switch, they were bad I mean really bad for about half the season, then they started gettign better each week til if you compared the fire half the season to the second half you'd thought they was stats from a different team. Ours has gotten WORSE, now granted that was partly losing Randolph, but it wasn't going in the right direction even then.

Sorry. I just haven't seen arrogance from Dooley lately. He seems pretty beaten down in my opinion.

Spot on comment. Both of his recent Monday pressers, plus the post game pressers have given me the impression that he's as beaten down as most of us fans are.

Regarding the thread, I say "What do you have to lose", its not going to get any worse.
