I'm Done - Best of Luck to Everyone

  • I'm quitting Tennessee football, at least for a while. Not giving up my UT fandom, just giving up on the obsession. Giving up the wasted clicks on 247 sports. Giving up the weekends ruined by crappy games. I'm an adult with a demanding job, a sometimes disappointed wife, a young toddler daughter who is the everything of my life, and I can't justify this anymore. This board is filled with great people, but I just can't make this worthwhile.

I'm sure I'll take some heat for not being a true UT fan. That's ok. I just need to direct my OCD somewhere more productive (or at least more fun).

Rocky Top. Best of luck to all.

  • I'm not giving up, but I certainly can't blame you. I believe Dooley is the man fir the job and we are getting there, but we've still got a long ways to go. I never said "undefeated season or I give up".

    Enjoy your new life.

My bet is you are back quickly. We are all addicts....no escaping. Trust me, I wish I could stop staying up until 4am local to watch these games....but I won't.

  • After growing up a Vol and a decade of attending the University of Tennessee, I have no choice but to continue on -- VFL.

The sad thing is that I can't get my kids to go to games anymore. They are too young (my oldest is 16) to remember when we were winners, and they have too many other things to do than to watch the Vols (and their dad) take a beating like this every year. For a while I kept them going by doing fun things before and after the game, but now I feel like I'm dragging them to even just one game every year.

Been there done that tallbrad. Last night, I even went to a church dinner club get together. My wife told me that she knew I went begrudgingly, but was proud of me nonetheless. I finally learned that I can no longer allow being a fan to consume every aspect of my life. It was easy in college and even the first year or four out of college, but with a wife and two kids, life takes precedent over football. I guess that I'm grateful to have a wife who's also a UT fan, and understands the obsession. I'll never give up on UT, but they're not paying me to be a fan, either...although that would be one heck of a fun job.

  • I still think you guys are on the upswing. I know you had a lot of momentum going into this one, and hadn't beaten Florida in a while, but I for one still expected a few losses from you all. Florida may end up a little better than we all had thought; they still haven't lost. You can still have, and I think you will have, a productive season and be a top 20 team. You have to admit, it is better than the last few seasons. From the outside, I don't see anything wrong with progress, and to put it rather politely, yours was a mess after the Kiffin fiasco. But obviously I am looking at it from an outside perspective and can't account for any internal dynamics at play.

LOL, I think I have a better grip now than I have the last few years when I've been obsessively following 247 for every latest nugget of info or every random speculation. It's really more about what JSWVol said. Life's changed. Need to adapt. Following the Vols obsessively is just going in the bin with fantasy baseball, the NBA and some other things that aren't worth the time anymore. Will still follow the team, just hopefully with less stress, these last several years haven't been too fun. All the orange gear isn't going in the dumpster or anything (as long as we don't lose to Kentucky again).

Couldn't help myself from one last VIP room...

I get you tallbrad. This site can be very time consuming and your little one could care less if you know the depth chart or stats from last game. All she wants to know is that her daddy loves her. Don't have to be the most informed person on the block to love and back the Vols. Keep wearin' the Orange. God Bless. GO VOLS!

BUTCH IS NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART. GO VOLS!

  • Its OK, its just one game. I still think Georgia & South Carolina are beatable. Miss State might be a tough one though, Starkville is a tough place 2 play with all those cowbells.

Amen brother and whether Tallbrad wants to admit it or not he will still be there more than he thinks. Hell for the last 6-7 yrs after every loss I'm griping and complaining, swearing up and down I'm not going to anymore games, watching them on tv and I darn sure ain't paying for PPV and every time I'm either sitting in the stadium, in front of the tv or struggling to order the game in time 5min. before kickoff. UT football is like my wife, can't live with her and can't live without her. Lol!

I still love and follow the Vols but I had to do the same thing years ago. I got tired of feeling bad because we lost and even worse for the way I acted. +1 for your priorities.

Been a Vol fan for 50 years. Have learned over the years that sometimes it's best just to pull back for a while and avoid the whiners, complainers, and the front runners who always want to fire the coach. Continuing to follow every comment and talking TV head will only lead to more misery when times aren't so well. Still feel Coach Dooley is the man for the job, can't continue to change coaches every few years and expect to make any progress. Go Vols.
