You are so right. Old fart here who remembers the coaching carousel at Bama. i don't want to see that here. +1

Agree but anyone would take it to end up with Saban.

Been a Vol fan for 50 years. Have learned over the years that sometimes it's best just to pull back for a while and avoid the whiners, complainers, and the front runners who always want to fire the coach. Continuing to follow every comment and talking TV head will only lead to more misery when times aren't so well. Still feel Coach Dooley is the man for the job, can't continue to change coaches every few years and expect to make any progress. Go Vols.

wave Welcome to the CheckerBoard 64vol. Glad you chimed in. +1 for a good first post. GO VOLS!

I'm quitting Tennessee football, at least for a while. Not giving up my UT fandom, just giving up on the obsession. Giving up the wasted clicks on 247 sports. Giving up the weekends ruined by crappy games. I'm an adult with a demanding job, a sometimes disappointed wife, a young toddler daughter who is the everything of my life, and I can't justify this anymore. This board is filled with great people, but I just can't make this worthwhile.

I'm sure I'll take some heat for not being a true UT fan. That's ok. I just need to direct my OCD somewhere more productive (or at least more fun).

Rocky Top. Best of luck to all.

    Tallbrad,
You're not the first and won't be the last to have to pull back a little for sake of family. I made peace with my DVR and have come to enjoy both families (wife & kids and the Vols). I still like to visit 247 mainly because I can't stand the other websites and the posts that are written. This is the best place for me to read, when I have time. Good luck to you and take care of the family. Hope to see you again some day.

After growing up a Vol and a decade of attending the University of Tennessee, I have no choice but to continue on -- VFL.

The sad thing is that I can't get my kids to go to games anymore. They are too young (my oldest is 16) to remember when we were winners, and they have too many other things to do than to watch the Vols (and their dad) take a beating like this every year. For a while I kept them going by doing fun things before and after the game, but now I feel like I'm dragging them to even just one game every year.

Ironically, I fell in love with the Vols when they were a pretty average program. Winning was big of course but the things that surrounded the program were bigger. I'm so sad for people these days who latched on to the Vols either during the 98/99 season or because of that team. To me there is a lot more to Tennessee football than the wins and losses (although the wins certainly make them more fun). It's kind of a celebration of the school, east Tennessee, the state, our culture and history to me. Compared to the state I live in now, Tennessee is rich in all of those. I guess I really dig that stuff and get more out of that than just the personal need of winning games each week. But to each his own...
