I'm OK with hiring Petrino

  • I know he is a little greasy, but we would be back within two seasons. What awesome offensive mind wouldn't have left Louisiville to coach Michael Vick? I know he left the Falcons high and dry but he went there to coach Vick. I bet there are a lot of people on this board that have taken a job and soon thereafter highly regretted it. I know he had an affair at Arkansas with a young blond and I feel badly for his family but I want a freaking football coach. I forgive him for his past transgressions and I would rather have him as our new HC than Strong, Smart, Mullen, etc. Forget Gruden, he is not a realistic candidate.

  • Don't forget the airport meeting with Auburn. No thanks. That is just asking to he left at the altar.

You may forgive him, but most recruits' Mamas won't.

  • He would be the perfect fit. Would he get his own Hostess or should he bring one?

    MatanzasCat

  • Even though I'm ok with Petrino he wouldn't be my first choice, I would really like to have Patterson or Fitzgerald. I think they are realistic options that could win here and unite the fan base.

  • no no no no no no no no no no no. you can't take a chance on someone who has continuously screwed organizations over when you're talking about a head coaching hire. It's way too risky.

  • Dave Hart all but said no to Petrino and his ilk today when he talked about doing it the right way amid NCAA probation. I was very happy to hear what he said and should stop all the talk about Mr. Motorcycle once and for all.

I would forgive the guy for his past, but are you really willing to sacrifice the integrity and tradition of this great program for one coach whom has shown nothing but deceitful and untrustworthy character ? The General would roll over in his grave.

  • Don't want the guy. He deserves another chance someday, but let him spend more time in the wilderness before he lands at a place like UT. Do I hear a mid-major calling....?

    Will77

  • He would Kiffin-ize UT.. He's scary.

Saying Bobby P is a little greasy is like saying Nick Saban is kinda short.

  • Harts not even going close to him and that is a good thing and he even addressed it today and told us what he wants

  • I agree with the OP. Everybody has screwed up in the past, and lets not act like being unfaithful in marriage is a rare thing these days (not at all justifying what he did). I don't think recruit's parents would be nearly as unwelcoming as some people have indicated, and i know 99% of you would totally forget about what he's done the first time he beats Florida, or Alabama, or S. Carolina.

I'm not saying the guy's a saint, but he's not the devil. He's done things that many, many people have done. Besides, if you hire him, you absolutely put a clause in the contract about personal conduct and leaving early; you make it impossible for somebody else to hire him with a ridiculous buyout number.

  • Do not want Petrino. Last summer's events aside, I don't think he'd have the loyalty and fortitude to stick it out if the job got tough and something better came along.

  • I believe if you ran a poll with the only two candidates available being Petrino and Fulmer, Fulmer would win. I really doubt Petrino is on our list. Hart wouldn't Stoops to that level.

  • I can't tell you how many women loathe him because of what he did - and my wife is one of them as has already told me that our donations and season tickets end if Petrino becomes coach. And I am sure she is not the only female Vol fan that feels that way based on the social media reaction to him.

Also, it wasn't like the Falcons players were that unhappy when he left - they despised him and all the chickenish stuff that be brought with him. The Falcons organization was infinitely better the day he left. It was just the cowardly way that he left.

No way I would ever support that slimeball - I have morals and ethical standards and will not sell them out just to win college football games.

Sounds like your wife and mine think alike! I have been told in no uncertain terms that she (nor I) will support Petrino. I, of course, just said "yes dear".biggrin

I am sorry these fellow board members down voted you on your statement of wanting Petrino. I personally don't think it is a good fit at this time in the program, but I don't agree with many but I never down vote them it is kind of rude. But you have a right to your opinion just as everyone has a right to their own. But when the University makes a decision on who the coach shall be everyone should just deal with it. Unless you are the AD or a Booster or the Chancellor you have absolutely no say on who they get to be the next coach. My personal choice would be Gruden or Fulmer some may hate the second choice but that's fine.I just shake my head when down votes are given when something is stated whether true or not is down voted, kind of like children not getting what they want or something they don't like lol are we not all adults here? Not here to make enemies just here making an observation. For backers who don't like Petrino for lack of morals and ethics in life touche, how many of us have done unmoral and unethical things in our lives, many I assume. We are not here to judge individuals in life we are here to support our future coach ever who he will be. I will be renewing my season tickets no matter who coaches this team and have my son by my side passing on the tradition of pulling for Tennessee whether they are 12-0 or 2-10
