  • The relative climate of your average Volunteers fan sure can change overnight can't it? Not two weeks ago morale was so low I felt like I was deep sea diving for orange and white pom-poms. A loss to Vanderbilt and a fired coach later and we're ravenous slap-happy sharks swimming in a sea of rumor morsels. It's a great time to be a fan. You know you're in the flux of history. One way or the other things are about to be a lot different around here.

My Gruden sense has been tweeked and I'm starting to get the itch too now. Even if I only feel like it's 20% possible I still feel like it actually is a possibility which is something I've never felt before. Honestly, I'm not even sure how he would translate to the checkerboard with that fiery personality and autonomous power trip engulfing the city. I do know this, if Gruden does become the next head coach of the Tennessee Volunteers he will either become a folk hero or the biggest flop in sports history based on the tremendous hype. I, for one, welcome the future with open arms. I will miss certain things about Dooley and although I would never have imagined at the beginning of the season that the bottom would have fallen out of his tenure so hiddeously leaving us slumming in the SEC cellar with Kentucky yet again, I can honestly say that I'll always be grateful for his courage in taking the reigns of the Big Orange nightmare. Seriously, was there ever a more tumultuous job assignment than ours after Kiffin bolted? And thanks to you GoVols247 family for being a marvelous venue for my hopes, fears and frustrations during the Dooley era. Love you guys!

  • Very good post Absolute. I think you have summed up very well what several of us are thinking, At first, I didn't buy into the Gruden possibility at all, now I don't know what to expect. One thing I do really like is the way Hart is conducting this process. I have 1000 more confidence in him as I did his predecessor is getting us the right guy.

  • Great posts.

My greatest fear is that we are building our hopes too high and we face an incredible downer if it doesn't happen.

It would be far worse than Ralphie not getting the Red Ryder BB gun on Christmas morning. What a terrible thing that would be.

Exactly. Maybe Santa will smile on BOC this year. We deserve it, considering the lumps of coal we've had in our stockings the last few years.

As best I can tell, we haven't gotten a break since November 14, 1998.

We're due! Bring us that BB gun!!!
