  • Here's my email just sent to the Athens TN chamber of commerce regarding Saban.

Just want you to know I have cancelled my motel reservations in Athens for this year's football season. The Holiday Inn Express in Lenoir City is closer to Knoxville but is a longer drive from Birmingham where I live. I'm sure the money we spend on hotels, gas and food in Athens is inconsequential to you but this is a matter of principle to me.

    Sincerely,

I hope any of you that have business in that area let these folks know how you feel.

Good for Athens for drawing a big name to town. Since when does their desire to bring in a championship-winning coach mean they're anti-UT? They're pro-Athens first and foremost, as any chamber of commerce should be about its town.

Ticket sales tell everything. Last year, Fulmer/Price/Wilson drew 276. So far, Saban's appearance has already sold 1,000 tickets. I wish those numbers were reversed, but they aren't. So, good for Athens.

    +1 Wes Vols.

This is ridiculous, boycotting a town because they wanted to make some money? When I look at this, all I see is someone who is employed by Alabama bringing serious money into a Tennessee town. Nothing wrong there.

This doesn't slander our football team in any way. This is a speaking appearance for God's sake. Don't be so serious everyone.

  • I posted this on another thread, but the Knoxville QB Club has invited rival coaches in to speak for decades. I covered Bear Bryant speaking there back in the day. He talked for a long time about how Gen. Neyland influenced his career.

I just don't see this as a reason to get riled up. It's nothing new whatsoever.

You downvoted me for saying I'd never spend a dollar in Athens when I live in DENVER.

    Ridiculous.

Down votes are the most idiotic idea ever for a message board. If you disagree with someone have the manliness to disagree with them and carry on a discussion like you are sitting across the table from them. This passive aggressive stuff says a lot about your character, more so your lack of character and lack of courage.

It shouldn't matter, but it's like a stranger slaps you in the face from behind and runs away before you can see who it is. Infuriating and I can't figure out why.

  • I feel weird taking up for downvotes, but I'm quite sure they have prevented a bajillion flame wars on this board. Nothing the least bit idiotic about that. Pretty damn brilliant, IMO.

They serve their purpose. It's just obnoxious when you take a position and get downvoted for it and don't know who did it. I can't figure out why I care, but it makes me want to go on a manhunt.

Denver, you are a solid 5-star and (almost) everybody likes you. Laugh 'em off.

As I used to say in college, F 'em if they can't take a joke.

    Thanks, bro.

Part of the frustration is that the board needs more discussion, and arguments can be a good part of that discussion.

I'd rather an argument ensue than someone just click the red arrow and log off.
