Interesting thing on Evan Woodberry's Blog

  • He says that Butch was contacted early in the process and told to sit tight...
Pretty much Hart knew he had him if he couldn't get the big fish.

GO VOLS! GO HEAT! GO PHINS! GO BRAVES! And for those who know soccer: GO BRAZIL! GO GRÊMIO!

We may come out of this with more reliable information that paints Hart in a different light but I don't know.

  • I don't really care how you paint it. This has made us a bigger joke than we already was before the search started.

  • This is no joke, the guy can coach. I think the joke is the reaction from some of our fans...a joke but not a surprise.

I don't necessarily think so. Some of the ESPN analysts are saying it is a fantastic hire, and Jones will do well here. He isn't Gruden, but after that I am as happy with him as anyone else. I don't think the whole thing looks quite as bad to every one else as it appeared on the various Vols boards. Some people said it was getting crazy, but I haven't heard anyone outside our community say it is a bad hire. Lets all give CBJ a fair chance. I think he will have success!vols

im excited about the hire..i think he can win and compete his first year..time will tell

what sold me on jones is he has took 2-3 stars and coached those boys up
something dooley cant and couldnt do..heres my problem if he comes out
next 3 years ,and looks like a best coach in the sec ,,just saying make sure we keep
him and not let him bolt for the next best school..hes upgrade from dooley & and tenn is huge upgrade
for him to make his name..i liked kelly before he went to irish contry..would kelly been a good hire
for tenn if we would have got him..instead of dooley...brighter days and better days

florida game will help me make my decision on where we all stand ..right staff and recruiting jones
can be a house hold name...and ide like to add i feel bad for cincy and there program for us taking
there coach this late in the season end..go vols

Agreed some of the fan reaction is embarrassing, but coaching is the icing on top of the cake in the SEC. You've got to recruit first, second, and third. We don't know whether he can do that in the areas he absolutely has to do it in, like Florida, GA, LA, AL, NC, VA, and get the best talent TN has to offer. No evidence he can get four stars and five stars from these places. The hope is that he hires a staff made up of those who have extensively recruited in the target areas. We shall see.

Find me a coach in the SEC in the last 10 years who has coached up 2-3 star recruits and have competed with GA, AL, LSU, and FL. Can't be done. You've got to have a good number of 4 stars and the occasional 5 star, while sprinkling in the three stars. We'll see pretty soon whether Jones can bring in the talent to compete with the big boys. Gonna need an SEC recruiting staff.

18 players on the Cinci roster are from Florida. Pretty sure they aren't high rated players, but he still got them to go north to play for him. He has more to lure players now, he has THE UNIVERSITY OF TENNESSEE!

I hear you, but the there are alot of Florida players to share. The question isn't whether you can get the guys without offers from SEC schools, the question is can you get the guys you have to fight for with FL, LSU, Bama, GA, and at this point throw in A&M, SC, and Vandy (Ugh).

I don't necessarily disagree with you about recruiting but I will point out that Chizik had some great top 10 classes but couldn't coach, Petrino recruited OK at Arky but he could coach, the rajin cajin recruited very well at Ole Miss but couldn't coach, Franklin for all his splash hasn't had a great class but he can coach. • Forgot to quote. RE: DCVOL

Yeah, I understand that part of it, I am just saying he has a presence in the area already. It will be a little easier to go into those places and offer a chance to play for UT vs. Cinci. Not knocking Cinci, just saying. The key to his recruiting success will be his staff anyway. If he puts a good staff together, I think he will be a good closer.
