I'm not saying forget tradition. What I'm saying is that there is a large segment of our fanbase who are stuck in the 90s. This wet dream of having an entire lineup of 90s Vols players as coaches is pretty ridiculous.

Fans harassing Tee Martin as if he somehow owes UT something is pretty stupid. Goodness, all this hoopla over a position coach!

I feel you for sure and agree that many of us choose to forget the last 10-12 years(even the good season or two that we had)... However, if you don't think that having Tee would be a big advantage in recruiting and connecting with kids and their parents I think you are underestimating Tee. He can sell the dream bc he actually lived it at the UT.

I agree that it is very sad that some who call themselves VFL's would resort to harassment. IMO to Vol Nation Tee is right there with Peyton(maybe just behind). Of course nationally, not so much but, he is a very very important Vol. I have to say that he knows our situation and knows the tremendous impact he would have on the program if he came back...and yes even as a lowly position coach. He is a Vol legend and will always remain so no matter if he ever comes back to coach...at least to me. In a way its hard not to feel a bit jilted though, especially knowing who his current boss is. I know a man must do what is best for the fam but Damn!

    Just hard to swallow.

Los Angeles is a great city and USC is a great job. It would be tough to pull any coach out of that situation. LA-2, Knoxville-0.

In much the same way as Wes stated before the recent election, without expressing his own personal preference for one candidate or the other, that it’s incomprehensible to him how anyone could be nearing the election “undecided,” considering how different the two candidates were, I cannot understand how any intelligent, observant human being alive could like BOTH Knoxville and LA.

If you just think LA is much better or preferable to you than Knoxville, then certainly I respect your opinion, you’re entitled to it, and we can just agree to disagree. But those two cities are so obviously on the opposite ends of the political, social and lifestyle spectrum, anyone who thinks they love both just ain’t payin’ close attention.

IMO, either Tee considers the South “home,” and his wife is the deciding factor, or he’s been significantly changed in his time away, and he really does prefer it there but just doesn’t want to hurt feelings here.

dober, it is all perspective, I have lived in Knoxville for just shy of 25 years and absolutely love it but LA is some find of fun. There is so much to do and see I understand how a person could want to stay. I could move there and be happy and I lean straight right!!

  • I am definitely upset that Tee didn't come back to help his school, but hey, it was his decision and he made it. I can't wish ill will on him personally for that. However, I do hope SC loses every game they play next year......if LK getting fired costs Tee his job, well, that a decision he made.

Tee owes UT nothing. He excelled while there and that of course makes him a fan favorite. But, he's a professional now and he has to do what's in the best interest of his career.

It's not 1998 anymore guys, and we as a fanbase really need to move on.

I agree with some of what you said. Should we move on from the fact we have pride in our tradition? No. And is LA a great city? Hell no! LA is a trash heap of the worst sort. It's dirty, crime ridden, and 90 percent of the population there are as fake as a sci-fi flick. This is coming from a Tennesseean who has lived all over the country while being in the military.

I would never wish ill will on someone like Tee, but honestly I am upset with him. I understand the reasons for him staying out also. With that said I also hope that USC loses every game, Kiffin loses his job and Tee regrets the fact that he did not take the jobs when he looks back. In all reality staying in LA to let your wife attemt to become a star when she honestly is not very good IMO does not make good career sense.

Why? Why hate on the man for making a career decision?

Do ANY of you have any idea what was said between CBJ and Tee? Do ANY of you have any idea how Tee feels about coming back here? I said it in another post but just because this is "home" doesn't mean he wants to come here now, or possibly ever.

Some of you are entirely too emotionally attached. You need to take a step back and realize it's all a game. It's all about maneuvering for the next best job. I don't see how anybody can legitimately say that Tee coming to UT is a better career move than staying at USC. It's not right now. IF CLK is fired next year, there's no guarantee that Tee will be let go. IF he's as good a recruiter as some of you claim, then the next coach may want to keep him like we did Graham. If not, then he'll go from there and make his next career decision.

The bottom line is that some of you are just completely out of line when it comes to something as trivial as Tee turning down a position at UT.

I agree. Let's move on. T choose Kiffin twice after bad mouthing him. He chose. Call it a career move, call it protecting his wife, call it anything you want, but he still chose Kiffin twice. It is what it is. I'm supporting our players and staff we have now, not the ones who aren't with us.vols
