A definite improvement over Dooley. But the days of beating Bama, Florida, Ga, are still far into the future somewhere. Welcome to 8-4, 7-5 seasons. If lucky maybe 9-3.

Right now I would take an 8-4 or 9-3 season

  • Give him a chance, if he can get a top DC we should be alright.

  • Granted, this guy is not the "splash" hire so many wanted but he is a good football COACH and that is what we needed. Welcome to Rocky Top Coach Jones.

  • Welcome to VolNation Coach Jones! We look forward to working with you for many years.. Happy to see that you already know how to beat the commodores..

    VolNavy

  • He is a winner wherever he has been and will continue here. At least he wasn't afraid to compete with the big boys in the SEC unlike a coach from Louisvillethumbsup

  • So many people welcoming this second rate coach to our ailing program like he's going to fix things and win big, yeah right. It's going to be a long 3-4 year AGAIN. But, at least he's better than Dooley right?

  • Any word on how large the buy out is going to be? A solid 7 million plus lifetime tickets sounds right.

    Palchez

  • Jones was not my first choice, but hiring a guy who has won a conference championship 4 times in 6 years as head coach is DEFINITELY an improvement over last time. Let's hope he can continue that trend at UT. GBO

    DCVOL

  • Good luck coach. But as an alum and donor it is right for all of us question the terrible leadership in our AD and university over this -- and other issues. Hart and Cheek are not what we need to move us forward. Our next search needs to be a new AD and chancellor. Bring us some W's butch!

If you are a fan you hope for the best...the hospitality of Tennesseans doesn't allow us to belittle him and call him second-rate before he steps foot on our campus. Since I have no control over the situation, I support the young men on the team by being supportive of their new coach. To do otherwise does not create an environment of enthusiasm. But go ahead and have a crappy day if that is the attitude you choose...I choose to be a VFL and cheer our program forward.

Its not a stupid question until you ask it.

I know Jones can coach, but he's about to take what we do best and dissmantle it. Offensive philosiphy is totally different. Gonna be another long 3-4 years. Spread offense does not work in the SEC. UNLESS you have Tim Tebow. Geez this coaching search is an absolute total joke.

  • We botched this search. Arkansas lands Bielema and we, with a seemingly better opening, end up taking a flyer on a coach who has never known big boy pressure. Hart should have turned to Family after Strong rejected us. Anyone sincerely on board with this hire has probably spent the last three years apologizing for Dooley.

I feel like I've been enrolled in the jelly of the month club.

Yes it will be a long 3-4 years and more if we expect him to win a SEC championship. Just accept that we will be better at 7-5 or 8-4 for the time being. When Saban, Richt, Spurrier retire, we may have a chance. Don't expect a a SEC championship anytime soon. Fans will be excited to beat our rivals every once in a while.

No way he keeps that many people. It is believed that he will bring John Janack (DC/LB), Steve Stripling (DL), Mike Bajakian (OC/QB), Mark Elder (ST/Safties), Don Mahoney (OL), and Roy Manning (RB). I dare him to replace Graham with Manning.

On what do you base this? Surely he would not bring guys that could not realistically expect to compete in the sec

  • I can't even begin to express how disappointed I am in this hire. Time will tell if I'm right or wrong but I have a sinking feeling that in three years UT will be looking for the next Tennessee football coach. I'm expecting 6-6 next year but wouldn't be surprised if its 5-7 or worse again.

I'm not saying he's not a good coach, I'm saying he wasn't the right selection here.

  • I have to admit I have not seen CBJ's offense, but everyone thinks spread is Fla with Tebow or Aub with Cam. All I can say is UNC's offense (Fedora's a spread guy) didn't look anything like that. Good coaches adapt to the talent they have, I'm hoping Jones takes this approach. Eventually it may look like a Tebow offense, but I gotta think Jones is smart enough to understand that's not how this team is currently built.

Jones will bring in his staff. He does not owe our current staff anything and I do not believe he will retain more than one or two coaches. It's not like he is walking into a situation where we have been really good. Don't kid yourself and think that Dooley was the only reason we have been bad. Our secondary was horrible why would we keep the db coaches? I would love to see them bring in as many UT alums as possible but that is not likely to happen.
