  • Smooth move, Hart. You hired one of the very few guys that Dooley was able to beat. I was hoping that Hart would have warned Petrino to keep his nose clean, and give him a shot at the job. Sorry, but with Jones, I see no light at the end of the LONG tunnel!

  • Tired of supporting my program only to watch it fall flat on its face time and time again. If he puts a quality product on the field then I'll support him, but until he does I'll continue with my current line of thinking.

Jones will bring in his staff. He does not owe our current staff anything and I do not believe he will retain more than one or two coaches. It's not like he is walking into a situation where we have been really good. Don't kid yourself and think that Dooley was the only reason we have been bad. Our secondary was horrible why would we keep the db coaches? I would love to see them bring in as many UT alums as possible but that is not likely to happen.

Exactly on the DBs. Every time I hear someone mention keeping Conklin and Ansley I want to puke. They coached the worst secondary I've ever seen at UT. Only thing I can figure is people think they're good recruiters. Maybe you make room for 1 guy like that, but I have to think these 2 guys were a huge part of our struggles this year.

  • Absolute bust. This guy brings nothing to the table. UT will continue to be at the bottom of the SEC with this clown. Nice job Hart. You think there is fan apathy now, just wait it will get worse. Hire the guy who couldn't beat the guy you fired.....

  • The man turned down two other Head Coaching jobs to come to Tennessee. He knew what he wanted and he was patient enough to wait for it. He wants to be the Vols new Head Coach. That right there speaks volumes for me. He wants to be here!!!!! Lets try and make this man feel welcome and show a little bit gratitude for his dedication to the Vols.

  • I've been studying Jones' history for the past two days. A few thoughts ...

    1. People seem to think Jones accomplished what he did because he followed Brian Kelly at Cincy. A careful study of their recruiting classes shows that Jones actually brought in higher rated recruits. Jones actually won with Kelly's inferior recruits.

    2. Jones is an offensive coach. He has run a spread offense, coached wide receivers under RichRod at West Virginia when they were putting up huge offensive numbers.

    3. Jones more than held his on at Cincy after dominating the MAC (which is equal to C-USA). He beat Charlie Strong two out of three and his only loss to him (3 points at Louisville this year) was with a rebuilt team. He beat James Franklin's Vanderbilt team just last year in the Liberty Bowl. Much has been made about how Tennessee trounced his team last year, but notice how his team rebounded ... went 9-3 with clearly inferior talent.

    4. Cincy players loved Jones, calling him "a players' coach." Perhaps the most revealing observation by a former Cincy player who played under Jones came yesterday after CBSSports.com named Jones its Big East Coach of the Year. Derek Wolfe, now a starting defensive lineman as a rookie with the 10-3 Denver Broncos, said Jones was a great coach and always seemed to give the players just what they needed at the right time.

Folks, Butch Jones may not be the "most sexy," big-name coach out there, but this guy has won everywhere he's been. He has extensive experience as an assistant/positions coach and has had success as a head coach.

More than anything, Butch Jones WANTED this job. Folks, that's the beginning recipe for success. I am glad we have hired someone who WANTED the Tennessee job.

I think he needs to hire some SEC-experienced staff, although he will likely bring three or four of his current staff with him from Cincy. It's his call. We've hired him. Now we have to let him do it his way and support him.
    Let's roll.

We botched this search. Arkansas lands Bielema and we, with a seemingly better opening, end up taking a flyer on a coach who has never known big boy pressure. Hart should have turned to Family after Strong rejected us. Anyone sincerely on board with this hire has probably spent the last three years apologizing for Dooley.

I feel like I've been enrolled in the jelly of the month club.

Yes it will be a long 3-4 years and more if we expect him to win a SEC championship. Just accept that we will be better at 7-5 or 8-4 for the time being. When Saban, Richt, Spurrier retire, we may have a chance. Don't expect a a SEC championship anytime soon. Fans will be excited to beat our rivals every once in a while.

I need a lobotomy to be compliant with such a line of thinking.

He may bring in new staff, but he NEEDS to retain, Hinshaw, Graham, and Pittman. And a UC staff is not going to cut it at UT!

    DC - John Chavis

    LBs - Kirk Olivadotti
    DBs - Derek Ansley

just my first calls I am making if I am him... any thoughts

  • Not the flashy hire some wanted, but Welcome Coach! It sure seems like you knew something we did not. Think about it - this guy did not appear on the radar and turned down multiple jobs to wait for us. He is either psychic or cocky ... we could use both! I hope you can keep some key staff members (Graham, Ansley, and Hinshaw ... last two for recruiting) and hit the road in recruiting. At this point, I just hope you out-coach one or two coaches next year AND win a game we are not supposed to win. THAT will be progress to me and a major step towards getting back.

Maybe you can show folks who think you have to be born into the SEC that you are a good coach and can build/stay here for many years. Others have done it (Miles, Meyer, etc)...why not you (though before anyone says it...yes, I know there are differences...lol...but it can be done).

No way he keeps that many people. It is believed that he will bring John Janack (DC/LB), Steve Stripling (DL), Mike Bajakian (OC/QB), Mark Elder (ST/Safties), Don Mahoney (OL), and Roy Manning (RB). I dare him to replace Graham with Manning.

What's your source for this information? Figured Hart might have the offer contingent on keeping some of the current staff. You know Ryan or Wes?

A definite improvement over Dooley. But the days of beating Bama, Florida, Ga, are still far into the future somewhere. Welcome to 8-4, 7-5 seasons. If lucky maybe 9-3.

You forgot South Carolina in there. This exactly why Strong and others did not come. Your fan base is delusional, until y'all realize that SC is the BEAST of the East you will never be happy with y'all's results. It's 2012 not 2002
