  • Not sure anyone will like or agree with this but the way I see it is we beat the crap out of a Uc team that was completely over match talent wise. Don't think UT has talent just look at the almost wins this year. Not saying we have talent even approaching Al, Ga, Lsu, etc but all of the close games in my opinion don't show lack of talent at UT it showed lack of coaching. CBJ and his staff will have a learning curve upon arriving in the sec but if they can coach (which seems to be the case reference his record) I think he can probably figure it out. I figure the guy is fairly intelligent anyway as he won the coaching search chess match when nobody thought he was a possibility here. He is a gamble but if he can scheme his way into the head spot at UT maybe he can do the same into some wins that the previous staff could not.

  • Best thing he could do to help recruiting would be to get T Martin on his staff. Great recruiter and loves the Vols

  • Further more I am so excited y'all did not go for James Franklin!

I need a lobotomy to be compliant with such a line of thinking.

What? You expect him to be 12-0 in a few short years? I guess you thought Dooley would lead us back to greatness too. You don't need a lobotomy to be a realist.

You forgot South Carolina in there. This exactly why Strong and others did not come. Your fan base is delusional, until y'all realize that SC is the BEAST of the East you will never be happy with y'all's results. It's 2012 not 2002

Beast of the east?? How many SEC championships have you been to under Spurrier again? Oh yeah that's right, just as many as UT.....

I can't even begin to express how disappointed I am in this hire. Time will tell if I'm right or wrong but I have a sinking feeling that in three years UT will be looking for the next Tennessee football coach. I'm expecting 6-6 next year but wouldn't be surprised if its 5-7 or worse again.

I'm not saying he's not a good coach, I'm saying he wasn't the right selection here.

Totally agree!!! With Roman and other NFL guys ripe for the picking Hart goes arrogant renegade and puts the blinders on and scrapes the bottom of the barrel with this hire..Only thing that would change my mind is if he retains Pittman and Graham and hires Tee Martin

I expected my school to make a good hire that would put us back in contention for the conference title or even a NC. I dont think this is it, also how many years did it take for Saban to get Bama to a 14-0 record? It can be done if you get the right man.

The man turned down two other Head Coaching jobs to come to Tennessee. He knew what he wanted and he was patient enough to wait for it. He wants to be the Vols new Head Coach. That right there speaks volumes for me. He wants to be here!!!!! Lets try and make this man feel welcome and show a little bit gratitude for his dedication to the Vols.

I hope him the best. But remember Dooley really wanted to be at UT also.

I've been studying Jones' history for the past two days. A few thoughts ...

    1. People seem to think Jones accomplished what he did because he followed Brian Kelly at Cincy. A careful study of their recruiting classes shows that Jones actually brought in higher rated recruits. Jones actually won with Kelly's inferior recruits.

    2. Jones is an offensive coach. He has run a spread offense, coached wide receivers under RichRod at West Virginia when they were putting up huge offensive numbers.

    3. Jones more than held his on at Cincy after dominating the MAC (which is equal to C-USA). He beat Charlie Strong two out of three and his only loss to him (3 points at Louisville this year) was with a rebuilt team. He beat James Franklin's Vanderbilt team just last year in the Liberty Bowl. Much has been made about how Tennessee trounced his team last year, but notice how his team rebounded ... went 9-3 with clearly inferior talent.

    4. Cincy players loved Jones, calling him "a players' coach." Perhaps the most revealing observation by a former Cincy player who played under Jones came yesterday after CBSSports.com named Jones its Big East Coach of the Year. Derek Wolfe, now a starting defensive lineman as a rookie with the 10-3 Denver Broncos, said Jones was a great coach and always seemed to give the players just what they needed at the right time.

Folks, Butch Jones may not be the "most sexy," big-name coach out there, but this guy has won everywhere he's been. He has extensive experience as an assistant/positions coach and has had success as a head coach.

More than anything, Butch Jones WANTED this job. Folks, that's the beginning recipe for success. I am glad we have hired someone who WANTED the Tennessee job.

I think he needs to hire some SEC-experienced staff, although he will likely bring three or four of his current staff with him from Cincy. It's his call. We've hired him. Now we have to let him do it his way and support him. Let's roll.

    Good stuff, DH.

Is is too bold to say its time to unite behind this coach, or will the Negative Nancys keep spewing their venum and bringing us down during the stretch run in recruiting?

Guess that's why y'all were in the SEC championship. Get out here with that weak sauce.

I think what I'm most concerned about is his style of offense. I may be proven wrong, but I think it's going to be a disaster. I'm really afraid we've got a hold of a Rich Rod Michigan style disaster. Like I said, I hope I'm wrong. Please prove me wrong.
