Izauea Lanier Thought

  • At this point doesn't it make sense for him to just stay at UT and come back next year, unless, of course, he is afraid he wouldn't make it academically again?

I guess I would've thought he'd be gone by now if he was going to transfer.

My limited understanding of his situation is that he made a C- in a couple of courses. With the current rules (again based on my limited understanding) a C- will count as a c but not as a passing grade in core courses. More of that help from academia in their never ending quest to have Business Week rank them in the Top 25 - which most Ivy league schools are now abandoning as BS..

  • So he passed his classes, but he didn't pass his classes towards his major with a high enough grade? Is that a UT policy or NCAA policy?

  • I don't really understand the hoopla surrounding Izzy. I know he played a lot, but I never really thought he was that good. Just that our other options were worse.

I agree with dxhman, he apparently was a lot better. remember, he also came in and was playing better than B. Moore, who wound up starting this year. I think having Lanier could have definitely helped.

By the end of the year he was the best we had.

UT. He would have played at Vandy or FL etc

It is how messed up the people on the academic side are vs what our competition does in the SEC

  • I don't tend to knock a University's attempt to better their academia, because they are in fact there to educate them first. However, if that is true about Lanier, a C- in a core course made him ineligible, then that is ridiculous.

If we are making players ineligible because of C-'s we might as well just quit playing football and basketball. Absurd.

It's because it was a C- either online or at another institution. You can make a C- at UT and stay eligible, but you can't transfer one in. Other schools in the SEC (including Vandy) will let you transfer in either a C- or a D.

I know that for a fact. I went to Vandy and was a tutor for the football team.

I think he fit the 3-4 better because of his length and ability to press at the line of scrimmage. Waggner was a soft little girl and couldn't play that way, he is a zone corner.

  • A C- does not count if it is in your of your core classes at UT. I was going to have to retake two of my classes this semester but I managed to pull C's in both of them
