Why are you starting a new thread about this?

Besides being dead wrong, you are just clogging up the boards with more drivel

Totally agree. A new thread to quote a comment on another thread? Ever heard of an upvote???

Which part is wrong? Go read the twitter feeds for the guys who cover Ohio. He has been in on literally every major conference job other than Auburn and Arkansas and pulled out of all of them at the last minute when he thought he could get a bigger payday here. What he's doing to Cincinnati is even more embarrassing than what happened to us in the last 72 hours.

I'm all for supporting the guy if he's hired but let's be 100% clear on what he has been doing for the last two weeks.

He was waiting for this job he was going to accept the Colorado job but strong turned us down so he turned down the Colorado job!

No problem. Article comments and message board are "connected." You can be on two different places on the site and still "talk" with one another.

It has been reported by Wes/Ryan at least 2 times that he turned down KY and Colorado because he thought he had a shot at the UT job. That's not a guy that's shopping for the highest bid. That's a guy that wants the UT job.

Oh come on. He desperately wants out of Cinci and we're the best job he thinks he has a shot at. Don't turn it into something it isn't.

If he intended on staying at Cinci unless UT offered him he wouldn't be out there interviewing for every job he can find. The dude wants a new job baaaad. The question you should ask yourself is why?

I don't think it has much to do with a "payday." I think he had his eye on the Tennessee job and held out until he got into the picture.

You might think that's a negative. I see it as a positive. Jones thinks Tennessee is a destination job.

That is not correct. He has interviewed at several jobs and bailed out holding out hope UT would eventually come around to him. He wants this job and has a much better record, and more HC tenure than Charlie Strong. 2-1 against Strong. Lost is OT this year. He had lots of options but held out for UT.

That's what I was thinking. I'm not excited about Butch Jones, but it sounds like he really wants to coach at UT.

  • Bigger paycheck? You want to down a man for wanting to sell himself for the best job possible? So, if you were out looking for a job you'd just take the first one you find? He saw his predecessor go to Notre Dame. The dude has confidence in himself and his abilities.

I don't think for one second it was all about money. We've been told for more than a week on here the guy wanted this job. He doesn't come here because he thinks he can get a fat pay day and retire as a loser in three years so he can trout fish in the Smokies. The guy has a fire under his belly. He probably wants to prove to people he's just as good as Kelly. From what I've seen of him so far and read about him, the guy isn't just gunning for paychecks. What I've seen, he's gunning to kick ass and take names.

  • Come on and at least tell the truth. This guy TURNED DOWN UK, PU and CU on the hope UT would call.

He really wants to be on Rocky Top!

Coaches flirt with other schools all the time to get their name out there and possibly get a raise at their current school. Judging by your logic, I guess that Les Miles desperately wants out of LSU because he listened to the Arkansas pitch?

Les Miles listened to Arkansas and an AD he knew from their time together at Michigan to get himself a raise. He didn't walk halfway down the aisle with half the team's on the northern hemisphere.

Maybe he is a huuuuuuge closet UT fan. Maybe his reasons are all perfectly reasonable.

Or maybe all the guys who cover him are right and he just wants the hell out of Cincinnati.

I bet Dooley thought it was a destination job too. That fact does nothing to excite me about hiring this guy.

I have a different take on it. I think he really wants the UT job, but of course, he's not sure that he'd be offered. (and up until last night, he wouldn't have been). So he's looking around at all of the other options and the UT thing just never goes away. The other schools aren't willing to wait, so they've got to move on.

Of course this is just speculation on my part, but it gives him the benefit of the doubt. Most people don't get to his position by being slimeballs - that catches up with them after a while.

What you see as a bad thing, I see as a good thing - I think he really wants to coach here. I do know he doesn't want to coach at Cincy though. lol

  • Hey, maybe it is on the up and up. All I know is the Ohio media guys think the guy desperately wants out and some of them aren't afraid to show their disdain.

Yeah - this coaching search has screwed up more than its fair share of sleep schedules.
