Wide receiver Eddie Jackson of Lauderdale Lakes, Fla., a fast-rising prospect who recently earned offers from several major programs, says Tennessee remains high on his list.

  • awesome ryan! If this guy really can run a 4.38 that'd be huge! I would think that if he'd been playing H.S football longer than a year he would be a little more high profile, but I like that we were there early and he's got ties to the program. He could be a good get!

The fact that he's only been playing ball for a short period of time is one thing, but most assumed he wouldn't qualify and that has hurt him as well.

He has really made strides in the classroom and told me yesterday that he fully expects to qualify after receiving a qualifying ACT test score.

I don't know about this one. IMO 1 year of HS football isn't enough to use a scholarship... And he says he's been told he'd be coming in and starting ?? Something not right here IMO.

"Jackson, who claims to have been timed at 4.38 seconds in the 40-yard dash, is coming off his first season of high-school football. He played wide receiver and safety at Boyd Anderson in addition to returning kickoffs and punts".

I'm with you '88. Something a little off on this situation. I don't know if they told him these things or he 'heard these things'. This kid could be a real roll of the dice.

  • Its funny how now that he has a few other offers that everyone thinks he would be a good get. Back when Dooley offered everyone was wondering what Dooley was thinking but I agree I wan't his speed on the field.

That's the great thing about recruiting. You never really know until the kid gets on the field.

I remember when Florida State first offered this German kid from Connecticut. Everyone was like... huh?!?!

A few years later, Bjoern Werner is now an All-American and a likely top 5 NFL draft pick.

    Crazy how things work out.

great point tom! Obviously there's no way to tell how Jackson is going to do at the next level, but i wouldn't be nearly as worried about it as some probably are.

he probably doesn't have many bad habits to break since he's been playing for such a short period of time so he may be easier to coach. I remember we all had high hopes of Drae Bowles coming out of HS, but he didn't progress and pick up stuff as quickly as most fans would have liked and didn't see the field this year. i would LOVE to have his speed in Knoxville...you can teach him how to play, you can't teach speed. Devin Hester even made a career out of being a raw, fast player.

Speed seems to be the theme with this staff on offense and defense.

    VFL86

  • 6'1, 4.38 speed. Yeah, i'd say he's worth a scholly. check out the video on the guy. Certainly looks like a legit sub 4.4. Elusive and hard to tackle too with good hands and body control. Not sure why he's not higher rated, but obviously FSU and LSU like what they see as well. Would be a really nice get. Time to battle the big boys CBJ!

  • Tough beating out Florida teams for Florida talent when we haven't been winning. Hopefully we can reel this kid in.

  • I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but all of these 3-star kids claiming sub-4.4 times I've seen so far look bogus to me. Any kid that fast is stunning to watch, even on youtube. Plus, I can personally say that a kid that fast is rare so he should be blowing by his teammates (I ran a 4.53 and never had a teammate catch me in ANY race). This kid looks like 4.6 at best, maybe 4.7, and I really wouldn't be surprised if he wasn't the fastest on his team.

I also have raced a couple of kids who could legitimately run 4.4. They were state champions on the track.

I know star ratings have definite meaning, but some of the best to play NCAAF, then NFL had little to no ratings. That is why I personally don't get all bent out of shape if we don't land a roster for of big fish! Good point Tom. +1

Do LSU, AR, UT and FSU often offer scholarships to WRs who run 4.7 40's?

    Maybe TE's or slot/AP receivers....but not WR's.

  • I know what you are saying, but it seems to me they saw something else they liked about him b/c his speed didn't look outstanding by any means.
