Jernigan News! Calling all Volunteers!

  • This is posted by a user on another board. Figure I would spread the word.

    "Fellow Vols fans, our beloved Vols could use a little help. I have a few contacts associated with UT and some fans and boosters that keep me abreast of things associated with the athletic program. They are "well" connected. Some very important people associated with Jernigans recruitment need our help. Since I live in Birmingham, Alabama, I can't get to Knoxville to help out on this one. Here is what is requested:

    1. Jernigan and family will arrive at the airport in Ktown around 11pm tomorrow night. They need between 100 -200 Vol fans dressed in Orange to be there to greet them. I was not given the flight number ... sorry.

    2. They need the rock painted tomorrow night late so that it will not be painted over before Jernigan and family can see it.

    PLEASE call all Vol fans in the area as well as students and solicit their help on this. This is NOT a joke and it is NOT a prank. This is LEGIT. We are gonna close BIG!"

  • I'm not even sure if the rock has been painted this year for a recruit. It seemed like it really helped last year with some players.

    Maybe Pearl can get whoever he hired to do the Tobias painting to do one. JK.

  • I know people are going to say that this is creepy and what not, however, I think recruits love this stuff. I personally dont plan on participating but if it helps to land a BIG TIME recruit i'm all for it. IIRC the majority of recruits always mention how cool it is that people know them when they are on campus.

    I know the people that were apart of the Tobias painting on the rock! Seemed to be popular that picture was all over the internet after Tobias took his picture by it.

  • I think the rock is going to get painted. Think I seen that on another message board. The last time I remember it being painted was maybe sept before the Oregon game maybe....

  • I am all for painting the rock and if people are going to the airport - count me in - but the question is - will people being going to the airport? Roll call?

    What's creepy about showing the kid and his family a little hospitality, and painting the rock? Do you know much about this tradition? Not tryin' to call you out on this, but it's awful easy to post "this is creepy" without expounding on why it seems creepy to you. So, please don't take offense to my question - just wonderin' what's behind your post.

    I could see this going either way. The kid is blown away by the support or is creeped out by random yokels showing up at the airport. The rock is one thing, but going out of your way to the airport is a whole different animal.

    I agree it depends on the kid about the airport............. some would love it and eat it up............. it might shy others away.......... I don't know jernigans personality so i'm not going to give a vote........... could be a slam dunk or it could be a mississippi state facebook explosion depends on the kid

  • This sounds like a suggestion from one of the kids we have that thinks he knows how this kid would feel. The problem I see is that if this kid brings his parent(s) or members of his family they may not want all the attention. You just never know.
