more of an injury over time. His knees broke down and he played through it last year. Had surgery in the offseason and then had setbacks.

Maymon doesn't fix what ails us right now.

Maymon doesn't fix what ails us now.. But he certainly would help.. Stokes was getting double teamed and triple teamed all night.. With another threat like Maymon down low, defenses couldn't be completely keyed in on Stokes.. They'd have to respect Maymon as well.. This would give Stokes more chances to post up and go one on one with a defender.. But what we are really missing is someone out on the perimeter who we can iso and allow him create his own shot... I watched Robert Hubbs play last weekend and trust me, he will solve that problem.. He's a star.. I just hope Stokes is still around next year too

    Butch, please!

It started late last season, when he tore a meniscus late last season but fought through it and then had surgery after the season.

After that one healed and he returned, he quickly had pain in the other knee and found another (but smaller) meniscus tear and had it operated on as a precautionary measure, before it got any worse.

Then one of the knees developed a post-surgery infection.

Just an awful stretch of luck, really.

So is January the goal? Sooner?

  • We need maymon back big time. Just the fact alone that they can take away from the amount of times that they double and triple team Stokes. Still need better shooting from the perimeter but Maymon being back still helps. And when he is back I think this team has an opportunity to do something very special.

We shockingly agree :) but another thing Maymon will help us create on offense is better spacing. Better spacing will give the guards we do have better lanes to attack from. Especially vs a lengthy zone like we did tonight.

  • The earliest we're likely to see him is vs. Xavier on 12/29 or Memphis on 1/04.

Worst case scenario is a medical redshirt, but I doubt he'd take one unless he couldn't play until March.

Man... you sure are a pessimist.

Considering we lost by one today, and Maymon is quite good at what he does... all things being equal we'd probably be discussing our upset road win over a top 25 team right now. He certainly doesn't fix all our problems, but any time you can put a great player on the floor where you are lacking a great player it fixes a lot of your problems.

Although he doesn't fix everything he does fix the biggest problem we had tonight. He is a big, tough high post that is bet good with the ball in his hands in the middle of a zone at the free throw line. This zone was the longest we faced since Louisville in the NCAA tourney when C-LO couldn't get a shot off. Getting the ball in the middle of a zone give easier shots to your perimeter players. Those guys were challenged all night because we had no dribble penetration and needed a Maymon in the middle.

Did you watch the game? If we had Maymon we would have won by ten.

+1 Stokes is an absolute beast inside but when he's getting double and triple teamed it's hard for him to do much. This team is average without Maymon. If we can get him back we have a chance to do something special this year but I think we all know that already.

Basketball Time in TN tweeted that they spoke to Vol trainer Chad Newman, and he said they expect Maymon back sometime in December. FWIW
