    Interesting. You did have a SR QB in Collaros, a stud DE in Connor Barwin, and an NFL RB in Isiah Pead. Not a terrible team. Cubbard wasn't bare.

    Collaros was not the starter for most of the 12-0 season and had a difficult season in Jone's first year. The defense had many holes to fill as well. Also, it took a while for the players to buy into Jones and his passionate style. CMU had the same problem, it took a few games but were very successful once they bought in. FYI

    I don't blame anyone for wanting to better themselves like Jones is doing, Cincy has promised Jones a lot of things, but have yet to deliver on most of them, so if you had the opportunity to double your salary and have one of the best work environments in the nation, would you switch jobs? And you right about UF, it is a better and easier job than UT, but Strong has stated how much he would love the opportunity to coach in the SEC, he had it and he ultimately wussed out of the opportunity of a lifetime. UT has academic problems, but it's nothing that can't be fixed within the next year.

    I hear ya. I understand where you're coming from, I just don't think Strong was a "wuss"... And honestly if I were Butch Jones I would try to GTFO of Cincy to. Big East is a disater. The hire could be good, but there's a ton of question marks.

    Agreed and at least he wants the job it seems. From this point on we can only take someone if they want it so we can't be picky, We need to support whoever and hope they can at least build it into a job that someone better wants if the current can't win consistently.

    Why does everyone hate Butch Jones but loved Charlie Strong? Charlie Strong is getting a "pass" on bad losses because he is at Louisville but Butch Jones dont at Cincy? He has beat Strong 2 out of 3 times. Cincy's D average giving up 17.2 points per game, while Strong's gave up 23. They had 14 ints and recovered 10 fumbles, Louisville only had 9 ints. I know he got crushed by us but the way we played that game would have beat everybody outside of the top 10.Strong had the 25th ranked D while Cincy had the 41st ranked D but gave up less points and Jones is not even a defensive guy. He is 50-27 and absolutely crushed Vandy in a bowl game. He might not be the homerun hire but the man can coach.

    OK...011, you've got my attention. Looks, on face value, to be a solid coach...not the "homerun hire" everyone (including myself) was looking for, but a solid coach that appears to really want the job and will hopefully grow with the program. Big part of his success will obviously be contingent on the staff he can assemble (hopefully keeping Pittman & Graham & let's not forget coach Mac on S&C...he will be critical for continuity going into the offseason) and equally important, his ability to recruit vs the big boys.

    Any other objective details on this guys track record & reputation on the recruiting trail would be great info. If Jones is the guy, then let's get behind him & show the support he & the TEAM will need. My frustration is w/the process and it's becoming increasingly clear that Cheek has to be shown the door...FIRE the man ASAP!

  • I agree on the question marks, everybody not named Saban, Spurrier or Meyer has them. At least this guy has won everywhere he's been, not against great competition, but that's not his fault. Everybody has to start somewhere and I really think we could do worse, because we already have.....biggrin

  • Not my first choice by any means and I would prefer Golden, but if he is coach, I will support him. He has as solid as a HC record as others we have looked at, though I agree his recruiting success will have to be shown. All he has to do is beat one of the 4 key opponents next year (UF, UGA, AL, USC) and those made will shut up. He may very well work out and be an excellent coach for a LONG time. Counting one lose to Dooley is ridiculous ... Saban lost to Louisiana-Someone at Alabama and UAB when he was at LSU. Not comparing the two but saying judge a coach by more than one game. If he hires an excellent staff, all is well.

    AND while I preferred Strong ... the salary we offered seemed high given his record ALTHOUGH I was OK with it if he was out guy. Just hope we don't pay that much for Jones.

    Not trying to start an argument. But TN ran off a coach who was 152-52 (top of my head numbers, may be wrong.) Half of the fan base was happy to see him go. (Not me.) and you are surprised at this reaction? I think you are being a bit naive..

  • So this is what it is like to hit rock bottom. Hart is an absolute catastrophe this is equal to hiring Fulmer back. I'm all about morals but good grief give us Petrino at least while they laugh at us we will be winning!
