Buy why did we just pay Dooley $5M to go away? So we can hire another potential up-and-comer from a crappy school?
We were told we'd be getting a coach that would restore us to "our rightful place in college football." We were sold on the fact that we were in good hands with this search. This has been an unmitigated disaster, and now we're going to take a guy from Cincy who, if he hadn't been clairvoyant enough to know we'd screw it up, would have been at either Kentucky or Colorado.
I know I'm going full red, but this is just so unbelievably disappointing.

you cannot compare Dooley to Butch Jones...Jones blows him away in record and experience.

Why does everyone hate Butch Jones but loved Charlie Strong? Charlie Strong is getting a "pass" on bad losses because he is at Louisville but Butch Jones dont at Cincy? He has beat Strong 2 out of 3 times. Cincy's D average giving up 17.2 points per game, while Strong's gave up 23. They had 14 ints and recovered 10 fumbles, Louisville only had 9 ints. I know he got crushed by us but the way we played that game would have beat everybody outside of the top 10.Strong had the 25th ranked D while Cincy had the 41st ranked D but gave up less points and Jones is not even a defensive guy. He is 50-27 and absolutely crushed Vandy in a bowl game. He might not be the homerun hire but the man can coach.

How will his leash be shorter than Dooley's. He's proven a hell of alot more than Dooley had. A 50-27 career record as a head coach and has at least tied for a conference championship in four of his six seasons.
How can you even compare him to Dooley?!? Only cause he's not a splash name hire could you even link the two. Period.

Honestly guys, y'all need to calm down. While it's not who we all thought we would get, I think this guy can flat out coach. And honestly, if he gets the job, he will be OUR coach that WE need to support until he gives us a reason not to.
Guy can coach, can he recruit? I guess we might get to see. I think he can do it, and y'all need to get with it and think the same thing.

And Kirby is way worse. Why would we dump Dooley and give him 5 mil just to go hire a coordinator with no HC experience. Jones is a much better option than Smart when you're just looking at resumes. So I guess we either take Jones or dirt.
The swing in the search is what is killing me. It goes from top guys straight to small school guys/coordinators. No in between guys or slight risk guys?

could it be that hart wanted to keep most of the current coaching staff.and just hire headcoach and his defense staff?and that kept throwing a wrench into the hire of the headcoach?
something hart or cheek 1 was putting something out there to change these coaches mind? wasnt huge surprise ..after espn reported he didnt except the colorado job.to me that was the writing on wall..jones knowed something because he has played his cards right
not saying hes bad hire..this could work out very good..if not ide say between hart&cheek 1 or both gets axed if this ends up being the coach and another dooley hire or situation

good point and I believe you are touching on what has everyone so down...the swing from top to middle. I just think having a guy that really wants to be here and not just grab a bigger check (whether from us or somewhere else) plus his record.

While I am not excited about potentially getting one of the few coaches Derek Dooley could beat, I gotta hand it to a guy who would turn down three other semi-decent coaching offers to see if Tennessee would come calling. I don't know if that is the case or not, but if it is, there is something to be said for a guy who REALLY wants to coach your team.

This guy seems to want to be at Tennessee and during the time Dooley was losing at UT, Jones was winning at Cinncy.

If Jones is such a surefire guy, why did everyone in East TN have to go wikipedia him when his name got tossed out there?
Why didn't Auburn or Arkansas give him a sniff?
I'm sure Jones would have been a fantastic hire at Kentucky. I expected more, and we were promised more by the athletic director.
