  • i agree. if he has been turning other jobs down because he thinks he has a chance to be our coach, that tells me he wants to be here. im in

he played 2 this year and lost to both. But thank you for illustrating part of my point, to wit, he comes from two mediocre football conferences - the MAC and the big east. Never been to a BCS bowl, never beaten a top 20 team, never recruited a top 20 class etc.. Shake yourselves people!! This is a hire that will further our immediate mediocrity..we can't let this happen!

Umm he has been at CMU and Cincy, wasn't Les Miles only 28-21 at OSU, yes it was BCS league but all those losses aren't against good teams, your getting upset, how come we don't let this guy fail before you cast judgement, this board is full of miserables lol

  • The pathetic attempts at rationalizing this potential hire are great.

You people don't get it. Sure any hire could work, but it doesn't validate the halfassed, prideful, and ignorant search attempt by UT. This is the single most important thing Hart will ever do at UT, and he blew it.

yes I'm miserable..I can't accept that mentality of "lets just see how he does..." sorry.

If Tennessee offers i think he is gone. it sucks we cant compete with them but unfortunately right now thats the reality.

i am curious what other fellow bearcat fans think about letting butch coach the bowl game if he leaves? i think his comments show that might be the intention if indeed he does leave. i say absolutely not next man in. we need the next coach whoever that may be to coach that game not a patch work of assistants.

i hope thats a moot point and he ends up staying.

Assuming Jones does come to Tennessee, chances are you'll land another coach like him, Kelly, or D'Antonio who will keep making the Bearcats a legitimate contender in the conference. If he does take the Tennessee job, I think you would be looking at a "patchwork" staff regardless of whether he coaches the bowl game or not, because some assistants might start looking elsewhere or might be brought over to his staff in Knoxville. Look at Wisconsin - Barry Alvarez is coming out of retirement for one game to coach Wisconsin in the Rose Bowl - if that's not a "patchwork" job I don't know what one is...

Ha yea right. He has a great team next year who could go undefeated.

Face it, Strong wussed out when faced with a challenge, he chose the easier path to success. Kelly could have stayed at Cincy and had 1 or 2 losses every season, but he chose a challenge that was huge at Norte Dame, Spurrier chose USCjr when they were terrible, could of had any school he wanted, but didn't shy away from the challenge. Good coaches aren't afraid of challenges if they truly believe in their abilities.

Cincinnati football coach Butch Jones has emerged as the front-runner for the Tennessee job, sources told govols247 late Thursday afternoon.

Hire him and get on with it already. Cant make all fans happy any way!

UT is much more than administrators . You don't pull for schools cuse you like their administrators . You pull for schools for many reasons but mine is because UT is family. It's home. It's tradition. I pull for the student athletes who sacrificed time away from their families cause they wanted to be Vols. We are better off if you fair weather fans were not fans at all.

Why did you quote me? I said the guy saying he was done with UT was ridiculous.

There are many signatures in the world....this one is mine!

Everybody is focused on Jones losing to Dooley. Kelley lost to Florida big time in a bowl while with Cincy. He's turned out ok at Notre Dame. Give Butch a cHance

He actually didn't coach that game but I still agree with you

I choose to look at it as Strong has high integrity while Jones is out whoreing himself out from school to school.

Jones is in a bad position with the Big East falling apart. Strong stayed because he is moving to the ACC.

  • Anybody know what kind of offense Jones runs?.Does he run a spread? Don't he call he plays?

  • Wasn't it a spread no huddle last year?

He runs the spread. He does not call the game. He let's his coordinators to that but he manages everything as HC.

  • Strength of Schedule for Cincinnati last 6 years....40th or worse. I'm glad that he has done a good job in the Big East, but I'm not excited about him coming to TN. Screwed up hiring Kiffin, moved back and took a chance on Dooley, didn't work as nice as the guy was, now we are moving sideways if we go with Jones. JMO. Only thing that would make me intrigued is if he gets a lower number and hires a kick ass assistant crew.
