Jones happy with first Vols' haul

  • I think this team could show out a little bit and be better then what we think they will be.. CBJ will have the players fighting for everything.. the D will have a chip on their shoulder and wanting to show that they can compete.. On the O side I think our O-line can make up for a lot of the learning curve that we are bound to hit. I really think we can do some tihings this year.. the most talented team doesnt always win.. its about who is hungry and who wants the win the most... and i think we will want it and we will fight!

Nice observation but I couldn't bear to look at the overall SEC rankings..Talk about a banner year of recruiting in the SEC..Jones is a winner but even if you brought Neyland and Lombardi form the grave to coach we would still get drilled by LSU;Bama;GA and FLA.. Just way too much disparity in talent..Bama;GA and FLA are racking and stacking RB's while we're scraping for any 3 star reach of a back we can snag..This just will NOT get us out of the cellar..Better days ahead but we have tons of ground to make up for

I agree that the Vols have a tons of ground to make up on the rest of the SEC top tier. Playing Ga, Fla, Bama every year and then add LSU, A&M, Auburn and Ark on a rotating basis is
simply a disaster in waiting for the Vols in their present state of mind and talent. Coach J has a really tough road ahead and hopefully he will improve the team mentally and physically, but I fear it will be at least 3-4 years or more before he can hope to have a 8-4 or better season. The top SEC teams are loaded for bear and we are going hunting with a bb gun. I hope I am wrong. Go Vols!

  • Call me crazy but I think we can and should expect to win this year. I think expecting to win will be the attitude of this staff and this team. Hard work and attitude are key.

IMO Tennessee wasn't out manned in any game with the exception of probably Alabama. We've got some really solid players that are fully capible of getting the job done and with the proper coaching scheme, in-game adjustments and quite simply believing and expecting to win will get it done on many nights. Half the battle is believing you're going to win. I know that sounds super cheesy and cliche but it is true.

Obviously, UT has a gauntlet schedule but there is no reason why UT can't pull out some big wins this year. Quite frankly, they're going to have to. If we don't win now, it won't get better in 3-4 years. At some point UT is going to have to win with so called "less talent" in order to recruit more elite talent.

See the UT basketball team as an example. Bruce Pearl went 24-8 with an NCAA birth with a team the previous year that went 16-17. It can be done. It has to be done.

    Signing Day 2013: 31 vs. 365

The staff of the University of Tennessee football team had a mere 31 days to recruit the 2013 class. The assistant coaches talk about the challenges of such a short time to recruit versus what they will be able to do with a full 365 days to work on the 2014 class.

  • I DO believe this coaching staff did a GR8 job in 31 days, period. More so, when you condiser the previous leadership, 3 losing seasons and 3 coaching changes in 4 seasons. I really believe this staff WILL better develop and prepare them for play and maximize their potential; and I concur that, given 365 days instead of 31, future recrtuiting years of 'selling the UT brand' will bring in more studs and our Program 'storm' should be largely over! Go Vols!!

    Go Big Orange!!
