    Two thoughts on this.

He's the only person on the defensive staff that Sunersi hasn't coached with or had some familiarity with. Maybe Sunersi is encouraging him to look...

Nobody knows for sure, but I'm sure Joseph is still a little sore about splitting up the DB duties and that factored with his has a familiiarity with Pelini, might convince him to leave.

The second point seems more likely to me. There've been several comments about CTJ's potential leaving being an opportunity to upgrade the coaching staff. Seems to me if that happened, we'd simply make the new DB coach the secondary coach, giving him CTJ's job from last year. He is, after all, "Sunseri's man."

No offense to BornToBeRed, but Nebraska's opening sounds like a step down in terms of conference, ability to recruit kids to go there and pay. The step up would be responsibility (back to what CTJ had last year). Seems like more or less a lateral move. Is Nebraska's head coach's seat "warmer" than Dooley's? Since CTJ is a great recruiter, does that matter all that much? Couldn't he find another job somewhere else anyway?

No offense taken, Eric. I have no trouble admitting the Big Ten is a step down from the SEC, no problem at all.

CTJ will have his hands full with recruiting. Much like UT, we don't have a ton of local talent to pull from. We recruit nationally on quite a scale. Take a look at our offers (http://nebraska.247sports.com/Recruit/Offers) and you'll see CA, AZ, IL, OH, PA, FL, TX, and more. I don't think it's a terrible school to recruit for, but we certainly have disadvantages. That said, we've got a few things that go our way. Facilities, tradition, academic support, and game day are the biggest sales. With the right kid, the sale isn't too tough.

As for position, I'm not sure what CTJ will be looking at. We just placed our LB Coach, Els, as RC but he's completely new to it. It's very possible CTJ would step in immediately as RC, but I'm not sure. As for the secondary, he'll be working with Bo. Make no mistake, most don't view that as a significant drawback. Bo is one of the better defensive minds in the country. Not the best, but CTJ could certainly find worse gigs.

As for his place as HC, I don't expect him to go anywhere. He's won 9 or 10 in every season he's been here. Hard to get a hot seat with that, and coming off the Bill Callahan era.

    THIS plus.....

UT will not offer him a "new deal" and he was probably lucky to get the extension at UT after 5-7 and the KY game.

I think he is all but gone bc of Sal, a new deal that only Neb can offer and splitting up the DBs.

I know Ryan mentioned how valuable he was with a lot of recruits we got but CTJ did miss on 3-4 HUGE names that we led for and late in the process too. He did a good job.......I would not say great on or off the field.

I do not see this as much of a loss if he leaves....and JMO he is gone as assts are always looking for the longest job security they can get esp when a similar good program is offering

Just curious, where are the pictures of the planes from? crazy shots!

    Johnny,

The pics are from Princess Juliana Airport on St Maarten. I did not take those shots, but I did make some last July when I was there. I will be taking more starting Monday afternoon when I go back.

Going to try and make sure I have some made while I have on some UT logos.

  • Think we will know fairly quickly today if Joseph if going or staying. I would think Pelini wants an answer today.
