Just out of curiosity..

  • How much better will Dooley leave this roster than the one he inherited if the guys that go pro go or graduate?

  • I think it's much better on the o-line and d-line, and everything else is pretty much equal. Overall, a better foundation with more experience and depth across the board.

  • The first team depth is solid, the 2-3 deep has some talent, but there are gaps that need filling. Overall, I agree with the ESPN article on where we are.

  • OL - much better
    RB - same
    WR - worse
    QB - better
    TE - worse
    DL - much better
    LB - better
    CB - same
    S - better
    K - same
    P - same

Overall, we're clearly better and if Pig & Blanc turn out to be better than Moore & Jones it becomes even more clear. While that may be possible, it'd be blind optimism to assume so. Outside of WR & TE, it'd be tough to convince me that there is a position group on our roster where we aren't at least as good as when Dooley arrived.

I agree about the lines being much better, but everything else is not equal. He had Simms and a freshman Bray his first year. The next coach will have Worley and Peterman(I believe both 4 stars) that know the system, Pig, our RBs are much better, AJ and Maggit, and the secondary has young talent in McNeil, Gray, and Bonner. Dooley had pretty much nothing to look forward to until his first class became upperclassmen. The next coach will have all full classes with solid talent. The senior class may be a little small if everyone leaves, but it'll still be pretty good.

The RBs are quite a bit better.

Neal is playing better, but from a talent standpoint it depends on if anyone other than Neal is better than Poole and I'm not sure if they are or not.

So, how is UT worse at receiver? When he got here, Dooley had Denarius Moore and Gerald Jones. Next year's receivers will be Hunter (if he stays), Patterson (if he stays), Pig, Bowles, Dallas, Carter, Blanc plus those recruits coming in. If you say worse because you expect Hunter and Patterson to leave, then I can see your point. But how would you rate them if they stayed? That would be a more fair assessment.

I'm assuming Hunter & Patterson go pro. Think that's the scenario OP was asking about. Dooley won't get credit for anyone we sign in this class.

Gotcha. Attention to detail. Still think we'll have a better receiving corps than the one Dooley inherited...... at least I hope so.

Way better with some depth mainly on the offensive line. I think the young receivers will be fine but the secondary will remain the biggest concern to me. We need Vonn Bell, Kam Miles and a stud corner to sign

I definitely believe that Marlin Lane will be a good running back and is now. He runs North and South. He's consistant.
