Just saying student section shouldn't be like this

  • This was 45 min before tip and they were sticking students in the nosebleeds. That's pretty crappy if you ask me. IMO. Can anyone else think of a school that puts their students In the upper deck????

There's more than a thousand seats for students in the lower level, too. The ones in the upper deck seldom are filled.

To answer your question, not many SEC arenas even have upper decks.

Ryan, I agree. When I was in school 4 years ago we were at the prime of Bruce's time and the best UT ever was. Unless we were playing KY or Florida you never had a problem getting a seat downstairs. I imagine it is much the same way today. It looks worse to people on tv than it is on TV bc the camera points toward the bench, not the student section. I thought it was great that there were about 1k actual seats in the lower bowl plus the risers. I thought it was more than fair.

  • There were tons of empty lower level seats at the LSU game. Show up for every game then I think you can have a discussion about better seats

  • Being in Hoosier country, I never hear the end of the size of IU's student section. I guess the reason I have such an issue with what UT has to do with their seating is technically this is a college basketball team. The students are the ones the players play for, technically. The students should be a top priority, even if they don't pay bucket loads of money for good seats. This is their school. If it were an NBA team it would be different. No school without the students, no team without the school. Sounds simple and stupid, but that's how I feel.

  • I dont know their numbers, but kids camp out at Duke for weeks for tickets, and I would guess alot of students never get to see a game.

  • As much as I love to gripe about the University's administration, particularly Jimmy Cheek, I can't fault them for this one. We do decent job filling up our sections for some games, but there have been many where we had virtually nobody in the "Mosh Pit". We are given 3 sections (I think) and the Mosh Pit, so I won't complain until every game tests that limit. I had to sit up there for the Vandy game last year, but I arrived more than an hour early last night and got to stand in the Mosh Pit.
As for Rupp, they have one section behind the basket, but it's a lot deeper and wider than ours, and they do a much better job of maintaining energy. If anyone deserves more seating, it's Kentucky students

  • Be glad you have tons of seats under the basket. During the buzz ball tenure you could show up 30 mins to an hour after tip and still get first 20 row of seats. When Bruce came in you had to get to the game 3-4 hours before they opened the doors for good seats. Bruce also removed the seats that were behind the goal thankfully. The student section for TBA is huge. Sitting up high isn't that bad of a seat.

You want good seats then show up early and get one. The other people down low paid much more money for the right to sit there than those in the upper deck. That's how life really works once you aren't coddled in college. Deal with it and stop whining.

Next time you or Wes are interviewing CCM will you ask him what he thinks about a student section that is the length of the court to help with our home court advantage or at least behind the visiting teams bench (like they have at Duke and other big basketball schools.) If they say that cannot happen will you ask if we want to be a top tier basketball program. Especially since we have one of the largest capacity college stadiums, I don't see how it couldn't help. It's horrible to see those old people sit in the front row and golf clap and occasionally stand. I would also like to know what the coach thinks that could do for recruiting.

Am I really getting down votes for asking a simple question?
